    Unhitching 5th Wheel

Hi: I have a Curt Q5 20k hitch.  A few times while unhitching, I've been unable to keep the hitch jaws apart in the "open" position so I can pull away from the 5er.  After extending the jacks to take weight off hitch and then pulling the lever, the hitch jaws don't always stay in the "open"...

    Battery Disconnect Switch

Thanks for the info.  The deal was that the dealer will provide all material and labor (other than the switch itself).  In my previous 5er (which I only kept 1 month), the dealer mounted the switch (a similar one) along the vertical wall separating the battery compartment from the basement...

    Battery Disconnect Switch

Hi All:  I picked up the battery disconnect switch (shown in link below) today at Harbor Freight.  I plan to ask the dealer to install it on the Jayco Eagle Super Lite 5th wheel that I plan to pick up in mid May.  Question: is the amp rating sufficient?  The switch is rated for 100 amps @ 12...

    12V Portable Tire Inflaters

Hello All:  I'm buying a Jayco 5er with 15" D-rated tires.  I'd like to get a small portable inflater just to top off the tires.  It has to be 12V capable since the unit will be kept in a storage lot without 110V power access.  Preferably it can also run off 110V when power is available. ...

What Food is Safe to Keep in RV While in Storage?

Thanks for the replies thus far.  To clarify, I'm not referring to long-term storage (such as over the winter).  I'm referring to those (roughly) 2-week storage periods between each use. Gary

What Food is Safe to Keep in RV While in Storage?

Hi: After 2 years of research and MANY questions to you good folks on this forum (and others), I will finally be picking up my first RV this Wednesday (Heartland Big Horn 3055RL 5th wheel). We'll be part-time RVers and will keep the trailer in a covered storage lot when not in use.  What types...

What's the difference between a trailer and a 5th wheel, besides the obvious?

Gary, Does this lag (due to difference in trailer wheel position in 5er vs. Semi) mean that it's not necessary to cut curners in a 5er as wide as Semi drivers do while turning going forward?  I'll be picking up my 5er next week and don't want to take any poles or fire hydrants along with me on...

    Midwest earthquake

I live 40-45 miles east of the epicenter.  So I had a rude awakening at 4:37am local time.  I've slept thru some lesser quakes in the past; this was the first one I actually felt and experienced.  It was one strange feeling -- started with a rumbling that intensified, and then the shaking...

    Furniture Glides/Slides for Heavy Recliners

Hi:  We have a 5er on order with upgraded leather/vinyl recliners. Although they are supposedly very comfortable, I hear they are very heavy and difficult to move.  Since we'll need to move them forward (to recline) and backward (to close slideout), I am wondering what you folks have done to...

Sales Tax Rate Increase While Order in Process

It ain't easy being me  :D  It's always something... I placed an order for a new 5er in February and plan to take delivery in May.  Unfortunately, my "beloved" state of Indiana just raised the sales tax rate from 6% to 7% effective April 1, 2008.  This will require an extra $390 upon delivery...

getting full output of ef 2400 question

Question (probably a dumb one!): if the claim of 3000 watt temporary (10 second) surge power is correct for the EF2400is, can that capability be realized with a 20-amp plug?  In other words, won't the 20-amp (2400 watt) plug and/or adapter limit that 3000 watt surge to only 2400 watt? Thanks!

    Generator advice

Do you have the 15k or 13.5k AC unit?  Dometic, Coleman?  Just wondering, since my trailer will have a 15k Dometic DuoTherm and I am eyeing that EF2400is generator also. Thanks Gary

15k vs. 13.5k AC With Portable Gensets?

Gary, Have you ever heard the 2800 and 2400 run side by side (from a noise standpoint)?  I haven't and there's no Yamaha dealer closeby.  The 2800 is rated 60-67db, whereas the 2400 is rated 53-58db.  Since I really don't intend to do much CG boondocking (just occassional parking lot...

15k vs. 13.5k AC With Portable Gensets?

Thanks for the info!  I was erroneously assuming the "compressor amps" in the Dometic specs INCLUDED starting amps.  But it sounds like starting amps are in addition to those values. Thanks again for the useful info! Gary
