2014 Open Range 345 RLS 5th Wheel W/ Akuret Tires

Given my recent experiences with China made tires, I gotta agree that there are ''bombs'' waiting to mess up your camping trip. Had 3 blow on one 90 mile one way trip, Tow Master, less than 2000 miles. I always check pressure and air up when need, do not drive over 62, mostly at 60 even as much...

    Carlisle Tires??

How do you file an ''NHTSA debrief. I recently had 3 of 4 tire blow on a short camping trip, camper/tires only 16 months old, were Tow Master Load Range E that I had the dealer upgrade to from the OEM D range tires. I also prior to this camper, had two blowouts on my TT with Carlisle tires...

New and more than a bit concerned about tires

Yeah, I was confused on that, it just seems like when I looked at marketing data, the Load Range classification corresponds to the number of plies, like C=6, D=8, and E=10. So I thought 10 ply was synomnous with E. I am focused on Load Range so thanks.

New and more than a bit concerned about tires

I am focusing on load capacity and have researched the Maxxis LT225/75R15 SUV/MA-761 Bravo Series. I like almost everything about it and the reviews but on their website, they show the load spec as 2028#; that is not near enough weight capacity to support my apprx 10,000 RV. I have an inquiry...

New and more than a bit concerned about tires

Ned,  I should have mentioned that, the dry weight of this camper is 8500# and I don't carry too much of a load so the weight should be well within the specs of a 10 ply  Load Range E tire, shouldn't it. Ok, just saw Gary's thread, I typically travel at 60mph or less, never over 60 by maybe 1-2...

New and more than a bit concerned about tires

I saw the title of this thread and I too want to know more about tires. I bought a new Surveyor 293 fiver last August, the manufactuer (Forrest River) spec'd this unit at D range, 8 ply tires. Since I had previously had 3 blowouts on my bumper pull TT, all 6 ply or 8 ply  tires) I knew that I...

D rated tires vs E rated tires

Thanks to all that replied, as usual, very good info. I went ahead and had the dealer do the upgrade and he credited me $40/tire on the OEMs. I feel comfortable with whole thing.

D rated tires vs E rated tires

Thanks all, good advice. I guess I am confused about the ply ratings. Gary's info clears that up, which means that my TT's tires that blew were actually C rated, not D rated as i thought. So the 8 ply tires should be safe at proper inflation and moderate speeds and it will just boil down to my...

D rated tires vs E rated tires

As i recently posted, i am soon to close a deal on a FR Surveyor 293 RL; I really love the layout and pretty much everything about the unit. But, I  really don't like the OEM tires, which are D rated 15'' 8 ply tires. I've had two blowouts in my last three trips, which were under 90 miles one...

overnight spot on the east side of Atlanta

Hunting Island is my number one place to camp also, we do at least 4 to 5 weeks a year there. Best sites are in the first and second loops, beautiful views. The backside is nice but no breeze and lots of skeeters. My daughter and her husband are at James Island this weekend.

    Surveyor Brand by Forest River

Hi, i know this is an old thread but is very timely to me. After months of research and looking at a 100 or so fivers and floorplans, we have finally found what my wife wants. It's the Surveyor 293 RL, fifth wheeler. We are very impressed with the interior and nice amenities. kinda plush...

Can I get an "Amen" on not using all lower case in posts?

You got my AMEN! Amen again, without shouting. I am glad there are other ''old school (and old) fogies out there that appreciate this issue. To me, it is out of consideration to the reader, and a little bit of pride in knowing it's the right thing as we were taught years ago.

    just bought the Sandpiper 365saq

Hey, no exp but I interested in your esp with Sandpiper. I just went to an RV Show on friday and was very much intersted in an Open Range, which I still like. But, I gotta say, for the price and apparent quality/appearance/decor, I was smitten with the Sandpiper. The amentities were outstanding...
