Flat Tow Vehicles? Opinion? esp Ford Fiesta-Focus autos

In June 2012, I had to find a replacement for my Honda Civic toad and, after considerable research, ended up with the 2012 Ford Fiesta.  Works well for flat towing since it is quite lite but it is crucial to follow Ford's pre-trip guidelines, e.g. cycling thru the gears, not letting the car...

    Gasoline preferences

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has compared the use of regular gasoline with premium when towing over moderately high mountains, i.e. Blue Ridge, Smokies, Appalachian, etc. I have a 29' Class C plus Ford Fiesta and am curious whether the added cost of premium is compensated by...

    Limping up the mountains

One more thought occurred to me this morning, after reviewing all the suggestions.  Most important -- slow down to 50 going up the mountains and turn the heater on full blast.  Take the motorhome out of overdrive and even drop to a lower gear.  If it still begins to overheat, pull off the road...

    Limping up the mountains

Three mitigating factors -- some mountains (i.e. Blue Ridge and Appalachian chains in particular) seem endless and one can easily find himself struggling to find a save pull-out plus the additional obstacle of being hot weather (mid-May).  Luckily it all turned out for the best. Howard 08...

    Limping up the mountains

After 7 years of traveling thru the mountains I had to replace the original radiator because it developed a leak and also replaced the thermostat because it was failing to open properly.  Will definitely heed recommended lower speeds (low 50's) while in the mountains and probably install an oil...

    Limping up the mountains

On our recent trip from North Carolina north thru the Blue Ridge Mountains we experienced a few tense moments when the thermostat in our 29 ft. class C motorhome suddenly rose to the most extreme position and refused to drop until I found a safe pullout and waited 10 minutes, then turned back on...

Can A/C cause power cord failure?

THANKS for ALL the reassuring comments that ALL hit the nail on the proverbial head.  I replaced the plug and everything seems to be working fine, thank you very much.  Have done a bit of electrical wiring many years ago but failed to realize that 30 amp power cords receive a lot of physical...

Can A/C cause power cord failure?

When my power cord overheated and burned a hole in the plug today, the only heavy drain was my A/C.  Does this mean that the A/C needs to be checked out, replaced, or simply replace the plug?  A/C has been in frequent use these past few weeks (in Florida) but performed flawlessly.  What really...

Indicator lights are completely off even with the generator running and the house battery switch in

Thanks, John & Gary, for suggesting the possible culprits.  Turned out to be dead batteries (& low water).  Am starting to lose favor with Interstates.  HB

Indicator lights are completely off even with the generator running and the house battery switch in

Fuse to panel OK.  With AC connected, panel lights are on.  With AC disconnected, I still have house lights.  So the mystery continues.

Indicator lights are completely off even with the generator running and the house battery switch in

With generator running, interior lights do OK.  Tried calling Winnebago but they won't reopen until Monday.  Will check fuses tomorrow.  Stay tuned.  THANKS!!

Indicator lights are completely off even with the generator running and the house battery switch in

I just encountered somewhat the same problem with my 2008 Class C Outlook.  Panel indicator lights are completely off even with the generator up and running and the house battery switch in the ON position.  Can't imagine that it would be the house batteies since they were replaced earlier this...

    Refrigerator coils question

Temps in my refrigerator and freezer over the past 3 months have been steady and about where they should be.  During the first two months there was only minimal icing on the coils.  During the last 2 weeks, there has been a huge buildup of ice on the coils yet no change in temperature or in the...

    Extended Warranty Sticker Shock

I had a suspicion that sentiment would favor being self-insured but not quite so persuasive as 5/5.  In partial defense, I should point out that my big ticket repairs in the last two years alone (slide module, 1 leveling jack replacement, ABS module) more than paid for the original EW.  However...

    Extended Warranty Sticker Shock

In 2 months the extended warranty that I purchased in June, 2007 (along with my new 29' class C) will expire.  For many reasons I've decided to buy another extended warranty but get a load on what is now being quoted.  My orig. 7-year policy cost $2,000  ($0.78 per day).  The closest policy...
