    South West Montana this summer

What dates are you going to be in that area? We're planning a trip down that way in June. We live in NW Montana just a couple miles from Glacier and have never been to Yellowstone. Gonna spend 4 or 5 days in Yellowstone, then 2 or 3 around Virginia City area. Been to Virginia City once but it...

    Buying a Campground

My wife and I have put some thought into this. I love the idea of owning a campground, however in NW Montana where we live the camping season is only about 5 months long. We love to get out and do lots of camping during the summer, but considering everything is snowed in all winter we would have...

    RV trailer accident

Funny that you bring that up. A co-worker was towing a 5x8 cargo trailer behind his Subaru a couple of years ago. He stopped at the grocery store to pick something up, came back out and headed home. He got about 3 stoplights away from the grocery store before the hitch slide all the way out of...

    New to 5th wheel

I just push the auto level button.....then open a beer. On a hot day I can have my first beer down before the system beeps at me to signal it's finished. Then I throw the lawn chairs out, and drink more beer. Sorry....I'm useless.

This 5th wheel towing stuff is driving me nuts LOL! help needed

That is precisely what I meant by "the only thing you're buying is springs".....AKA increased capacity. The physical SIZE of the truck stays the same. The frame and axle stay the same. Unless you're buying a DRW in my humble opinion all you are getting with a one ton over a 3/4 ton is a heavier...

    Camping in the winter

We put ours away for the winter. Everything here gets snowed in...campgrounds are not plowed and most of the RV parks here close for the winter.

Is extended warranty worth the cost?

I have had both kinds of luck on extended warranties. I've been glad I had one a couple times, and felt it was a waste of money a couple times. Darned if you do, darned if you don't for sure.

This 5th wheel towing stuff is driving me nuts LOL! help needed

Unless you're buying a dually, the only thing you gain with a 3500 over a 2500 is springs, everything else is the same. The physical dimensions of the truck will be the same.

Strictest And Most Lenient States on Speeding and Reckless Driving

We are pretty lax here in Montana. On the interstate I never run less than 10mph over the speed limit when I'm not towing our trailer and it's been 10+ years since a highway patrolman has even looked twice at me. Our speed limits on the interstate are 80mph. Contrary to what many of you think...

    Tires....Again

Find a buddy with a race car. Most racers keep very close track of the weight distribution of their race cars and have their own scale system with a pad that goes under each individual wheel so they know exactly how many pounds is at each corner of the car.

    Walmart oil change

I do my own oil changes and all other drivetrain maintenance and repair. Don't trust any of the hacks working in quick lube places or regular repair shops for the most part.

    Chevys tow ratings

I don't know about other years or brands of truck, but the stupid thing about my 2003 chevy 3/4 ton SRW is that it's the exact same truck as a 2003 1 ton Chevy SRW. The only difference is the 1-ton has a different spring pack for the rear axle. I was shopping for a 1-ton SRW around the same age...

Do you leave linens in trailer during the winter or storage?

We take all the food out of our 5th wheel and that's it. Everything else stays just as though we're ready to use it. We store it inside an 80x100 steel building and have never had a problem with mice. (barn cats take care of the mice)

    How do you live?

We use a combination of debit/credit card for purchases. Have had no problems at all with the credit card I use. Have had one debit card issue and my bank was on it right away by cancelling the transaction as it was happening. I'm very happy with our bank, we have a good relationship with them...

Should I switch to a synthetic oil??

I had a personal experience that convinced me to use synthetic oil over 10 years ago. I perform all of my own maintenance, repair, and modifications. I was working as an auto mechanic. One of my co-workers had a dirt late model race car that he ran on the local race track. He used to change the...
