Ford F-150 2.7 or 3.5 Ecoboost to tow these campers?

Either engine will work fine for those trailers-- neither one will much notice a 4000lb trailer.  (engines aren't the limiting factor in towing with modern pickups).  Get a truck with the towing package which includes a brake controller and a hitch rated for way more than any of those trailers...

Good towing SUV for long Airstream TT?

If your heart is set on an airstream get an airstream.  It's a thing-- not my thing but it's a thing.  (They are beautiful and if it weren't for summer in Texas I'd love to have one.) Question-- does it have to be a SUV? How about a nice 3/4 or 1 ton van? EDIT:  No reason to overlook gas...

Looking at 1st camper, Set on Fiver, cant find what we want. Any suggestions?

I like this game...other people's money spends a lot easier than mine.  ;D I can do three bunks, two full baths, washer/dryer prep... Actually a pretty compelling floorplan. http://www.forestriverinc.com/product-details.aspx?LineID=169&Image=5085&ShowParent=1&ModelID=2283#Main...

    Shopping. Hate Salesmen

^^That's a great place to start! I'll add that several manufactures have trailers in this kind of floorplan.  Jayco has at least one, so does Rockwood (well forest river probably has 30 that all pretty close with a different sticker on the outside).  Once you get a short list of models, hit...

A Question for the "Horsepower" Folks

For a 3000 lb TT? A full sized van would probably do mighty fine by that TT.  But yeah, you'll typically need to wind (naturally aspirated) gassers up pretty good to get the rated power.  You *should* have more torque in the lower end of the V8 so you don't need to wind it up quite so often though.

    Diesels and TCs

That Adventurer is 5000 or so wet... Let's rough it out: Camper 5000# wet Stuff 500# Option weight 500# (The numbers in the book are base so you have to figure all the goodies add up:  this jives with a 2017 KR 450 I peeked in at the Fair a few weeks ago) Pax 660# -- 230 me, 130 Mrs. MMW, and...

    Diesels and TCs

That's really helpful, thanks! This is why I asked-- I was assuming the front axle would get a lot more of the weight than evidently it does in the real world. The current object of my desire are the Adventurer 116DS and the Eagle Cap 1160...both of those are heavy, bed rail height TCs that...

    Ford F150 2.7--Experiences

I only have indirect experience:  another dad from the Scout troop pulled the trailer that I normally pull with his 2.7 EB (cargo trailer with troop and personal gear for 40 or so).  He reported it was fine towing into the Texas Hill Country.  With the power and torque curves of the 2.7, you...

    Diesels and TCs

I'm noodling around with a TCs recently:  I like 'em!  I made the mistake of wandering through a couple of Lances a few weeks ago and they've been on the brain somewhat.  I think they'd fit what I like to do pretty well.  I fully accept that people run these things over GVWR but am hesitant to...

Traveling with full size gas grill + toad

I just bought a spirit 210 for the house:  I love it.  The space has been limited a couple of times but for most things it's plenty big, gets plenty hot, and sips the propane :) If yours is anything like mine, the base pretty much just unbolts from the top.  Constructing or finding some sort of...

    Truck guidance

It's really a matter of payload more than anything...what does the yellow sticker on the door say?  The yellow sticker in the door is the final authority on weather or not the truck can handle the trailer.  CCC drives everything.  Remember:  that 'tow rating' is for a very lightly equipped...
