Concerns about Moving from a 21ft to a 28ft Trailer

I found that the longer trailers are easier to pull.  Just a little practice and you will not know the difference

No Running lights, no brake lights or signals on 5th wheel!

You might check the ground connection at the plug where the pigtale plugs into the truck.  Is your connector a 7 pin flat (RV) or one of the other configurations?  Take a small screwdriver and add a little tension to the connector blades if it is a 7 pin flat.

What manufacturers to stay away from

X4  on Northwood Artic Fox or go with Mobile Suites if you have the $$$$$.  I'm full-timing in a Fleetwood Terry but I think the Fox is better constructed.  Just my opinion.

    Chains or Not - Advice?

I spent about 8 years towing RV travel trailers and 5th wheels from the manufacturing plants to dealers all over the country.  The company I was leased to had a policy that if the roads were bad enough to require chains it was bad enough to stop and wait it out.  I had to carry 2 sets of chains...

Hello TRUCK OWNERS, Can you give this lady some advice??

If you are wanting to go west and pull mountains IMHO you need to at least upgrade your tow vehicle to a Heavy Duty P/U.  a HD 2500 or 3500 will have larger breaks.  If you get a truck with a diesel engine an exhaust break can be added for safer descent off the mountains.  My current truck was...

    Texas Inspection on 5th Wheel

If I remember Texad has a requirement that all towed vehicles over 4500# are required to have trailer brakes. I think the inspection requirement was in place to ensure that the trailer brakes and axillary (break-away) braking system are working properly.  Lights were thrown in for good measure. ...

    2006 Ford F250 replacement tires

I like General Ameritrac they don't run as many miles as the Michelin but the cost per mile is lower.

Shower Door Will not close completely

The shower door will not close and lock.  It appears that the frame is out of square.  the door drags on the bottom outside edge.  The trailer is  level and steadied with the dollies in front and the scissor stabilizing jacks in the rear.  We bought this unit used about 3 months ago and this I...

    Blown tires on a 2012

Manufacturers use builder grade (the least expensive they can find) everywhere.  I moved a 30 ft. travel trailer from the factory in Dallas OR. to a dealer in Salt Lake City.  I blew 5 tires on that trip.  The four that were mounted on the trailer + the spare.  They were one of the first batches...

Any thoughts on shore power mods?

Thanks..You guys talked me out of a lot of work.  The Terry has (2) 71/2 gallon propane tanks and my Bar-B-Q pit has a 5 gallon +a 5 gallon spare .  I might think about a separate circuit for the WH.  The shore power available here is a 30 Amp or 50 Amp no 20 amp plug-in available. Thanks Jerry

Any thoughts on shore power mods?

2004 Fleetwood Terry 24 FW.  Power distribution has 30 amp service.  30 amp main breaker trips in Texas afternoon when A/C and a few lights and TV is up and running will trip the main in trailer breaker.  Toggling the energy source for the water heater to the propane bottles seems to take care...

    Cruising speed?

I tow between 61 and 65 and it seems like I am the slowest vehicle on the road.  Just fast enough to stay in the right lane and have everyone pass me.  I change lanes fewer times at that speed.  Disengage cruise control when temp falls to within 1 or 2 degrees of freezing or in hilly/mountainous...

    Hello everyone

My name is Jerry and I spent 6 years working for a transport company moving travel trailers and 5th wheels from the factory to dealers.  Most deliveries started in the Elkhart IN. area to all 48 contiguous states and most of the provinces of Canada.  I have over 500,000 safe driving miles using...
