    What's the difference between a 350 & a 400 Big Block?

There was a big block Turbo Jet 400 as well, in reality it is a 396/402 but was labled 396 in the cars and Turbo Jet 400 in trucks. Base on the W series.  The 400 Small block was based on the 350 but it only shared design dimensions, the block was a different casting and it was prone to over...

    New fuel cell

a custom cell can be made I do it all the time for race cars. There are several Manufactures of fuel tanks for race cars boats and other that may be made to work but not by the average parts replacer/dealer mechanic. It will take some thining and fabrication to do any sort of conversion. post a...

    twin axle front rigs

Sorry not my intent but more people died this week in the world choking while eating than this year from front blow outs. The families of all miss their loved ones the same but are we to say now that Eating is dangerous? I am not good with words maybe but feel I would rather live life then stay...

    twin axle front rigs

One anecdotal story does not make a case for blow a front tire and die. I have lost a front while driving at speed and although it was a harrowing experience I was able to keep it between the ditches and come to a stop. I build custom rigs all the time if you are willing to pay somebody will...

    Transmission use in lower gear

Pet name we (mechanic freinds) put to em in their early years. They were problematic early in thier run. Kind of like calling a $100,000 race car "My Junk". If yours proved otherwise I am happy to hear that.

    Transmission use in lower gear

glad you have had good luck with yours. I replace them often, usually around the 80,000 mark. I guess I did not mean to single out the explorer just point out that the trans life was probably not shortened by the downshifting as long as it was done properly. Poor choice of words Sorry!

    Transmission use in lower gear

Probably had more to do with the exploder trans then selecting a lower gear going down hills. They are a notoriously weak unit.

    Vapor Lock Fuel Line

OH and acetone boils around 130* sea level and is use often as an octane booster. last edit ethanol is 172* not 174* sorry i missremembered ;D

    Vapor Lock Fuel Line

No positive displacement very similar to an oil pump. But think of the lower pressure at the intake like all pumps have and think of the adatives in gasoline. Alcohol boils at 174* at sea level now go up to 4000' and apply a bit of suction no matter how the pump is mounted there will be a...

Ford F53 Chassis Rear Axle / Suspension questions

I would look for a broken centering pin or bent spring. With leafs on all 4 corners I would not be allarmed on 1/4" or so but 1" is a bit much.

    Vapor Lock Fuel Line

There are 2 types of high pressure fuel pump one is a roller vane and the other is a gear rottor. Both of them use a volume differential principal. Both use very high tolerance parts to seal while operating. As these parts wear the tolerances get looser and this causes some "slip" if you will...

    Bent axles

Just to follow up, we took the trailer to the desert for a KOH racer shock tuning day and it did really well with the straightened axles and new tires. We loaded it up to 6500# and it pulled nice no issue. The added sail area of an enclosed behind the motorhome does not make the turn across the...

    questions about Anza-Borrego Desert SP

Easy drive but the wind near Cabazon can blow hard when it is calm else where. I do it regularly and often lug a max load thru Julian from Temecula so you can too. Just slow down don't get in a hurry and if you feel the need stop and wait it out you have what you need with you anyway.
