2010 FMCA International Rally in Albuquerque, NM, March 2010

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an RV or an interest in RVing!
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Bob:

Hope everything works out well, our prayers will be with you.

We're confused by the pricing on the FMCA websitie.  Do those prices include parking for each day of the convention or are they just fees to get into the seminars, etc?  Can you just go there and pay for parking and not attend the meetings?  We'd like to meet everyone but don't want to spend several hundred dollars each day.

Mike and Shirley,

The FMCA  price includes your coach for all of the days.  If you register before  3/1 and don't need electric it is $144.  If you don't drive and park your coach you get a passport for  $134 and you walk into events and exhibits daily.
Get details here. http://www.fmca.com/index.php/conventions/albuquerque/2815-family-registration

I just had an angiography and the results show positive and I may be a candidate for a bypass. . . ;) Leota drove me here after coming up from Socorro, picking me up waiting for results .

Bob, our first concern is your health. Whatever your diagnoses and treatments are, we just want you to be healthy. If your medical needs affect the ABQ get-togethers so be it, but hopefully you'll be able to host the Belen and Gabriel events. We missed seeing you at QZ.

We have our ABQ confirmation for a Saturday (AM?) entry. Thinking about staying in the Belen area on Friday for the get-together and then caravaning in to the Balloon grounds (generator) Saturday morning with any others with similar plans. What say you?

As Betty said, the FMCA Convention fee is $144 for generator parking. This gives you coach parking (boondocking) on the Balloon Field for the duration of the event and admission to all seminars, entertainment and other activities. The Passport option is a duration of convention fee, you park your coach elsewhere and drive your car to the rally and you have admission to the daily seminars, entertainment and other activities.

Mike and I are in Abq at Sandia Casino. After my VA appointment this morning, once the pupil dilation wore off, we drove around and looked at the ways into the balloon grounds. Following the FMCA's instructions for "Families with day of admittance credentials," we plan on being at the corner of San Mateo and Balloon Fiesta Pky on Saturday afternoon waiting for the group coming in from the west. Anyone want to join us there to wait, the coordinates are N35 11.953 W106 35.187. Or you could come by the casino and join us and a bunch of other RVs in their parking lot ahead of time.

Holler if you have any questions.

See ya'll soon.
Wendy

We arrived yesterday afternoon at Enchanted Trails RV Park 9 miles west on I-40 x149. Its a PA park, but seems sold out now. We are planning on driving down to Belen on Friday and our entry to the Festival Grounds is Saturday morning. Give us a call if you want to get together today or car pool down to Belen tomorrow. Anyone entering Saturday morning should also let us know, we can meet in the holding area.

Are you parking with the peasants this time? You cold wait until Saturday afternoon and go in with the rest of us.

Wendy

Bernie:

The Brewers, Kuchs, and Cousins are the group Wendy is talking about joining up with. We plan to be there between 2:00-3:00PM and all are staying in Generator parking.

We stopped by the rally site this afternoon and picked up our credentials. In spite of what I was told, we have Saturday afternoon entry. We've rearranged our schedule and will await the latecomers to enter. Instead of parking on the street waiting to hook up, maybe we should meet up in the holding area. It seems large enough for the number of coaches scheduled and is off the street.

Wendy, we've always parked where the parkers put us, just call me peasant Bernie ;D ;D

Jeff, we are also generator and I assume Wendy and Mike are also, so we can all park together.

Holding area works for us. Or the coords I posted are actually on a side street off Balloon Fiesta Pky. But we'll meet up wherever everyone else wants to meet up. We're peasants and aren't particular :)

Bernie - any exciting touristy things happening tomorrow? Not too exciting, we did a 4-mile hike today straight up the side of the Sandia Mountains and are totally crapped out.

Bob - Any update on the Friday night event in Belen? What time do we meet at the restaurant or is there something happening beforehand?

Bernie:

Here is what's planned:

We are stopping at Flying J to top off. When we leave there I will call Mike and Wendy who will be at the casino (10 minutes from the rendezvous site). At that point they are planning on going out to wait on the standard route into the Balloon Park (without a detour to the holding area). We will keep them appraised of our progress so we all meet up and proceed into the park.

I don't know if you have read the directions to the holding are but it seems to be a round about route into the park. Our thoughts were that whoever wants to park with us who arrive early can join Mike and Wendy and proceed as a group to join up.

See you all Saturday.

Personally, I think the holding area is best for meeting up. As we talked, meet you there around 1PM

Today we went looking for product and displays for Marlene's projects. Tomorrow we'll do a circle tour of the Salinas Pueblo Monument on the way to Belen.

Just talked to Bob. There won't be any Virtual Campfire and we'll be meeting at Harla Mays at 5:30PM, an hour earlier.

The route from the casino to the holding area is the same as described in the directions. Not sure what you mean by the standard route. The only alternatives are exiting I-25 at Alemeda and turning west on San Mateo or the printed directions that bring you in on San Mateo from the opposite direction. We drove our car over both routes today and the printed directions effectively are about the same as the alternative. Not enough difference to get excited about, but there will be traffic control and assistance on the printed route.

The route to the holding area takes you right  to the entry gate, you drive right by it. By meeting in the holding area, we can be sure that the parkers keep us together going in. The last I talked with Mike and Wendy, we were going to meet in the holding area and wait for you there.

Bob!  Thanks so much for the followup on our visit!  AND thanks for setting up a pre-rally dinner!

My wife (school counselor) recently had an accident at her school where she fell and broke her ankle, and that pretty much put an end to our FIRST rally this year.  :(  Also, the weather has been bad, and there would be no way for us to "dig out"our motorhome from the snow where we live.  We have unfortunately cancelled our FMCA Rally reservations, and will take Spring Break here in the Rockies watching it snow.

I've enjoyed your posts on Facebook, and we still look forward to meeting you sometime!  :)

My wife (school counselor) recently had an accident at her school where she fell and broke her ankle

Been there, done that, not fun!  Only thing is mine was a broken elbow and we had almost arrived at the rally site.  So we spent four months in Oregon instead of the Maritimes and Newfoundland which was our original destination.  It's easier when you're at home but never a fun thing to have happen.  I hope your wife's isn't a seriously bad break and that it heals well.  Tell her I said to be sure to do what the doctor says, especially the therapy.  I was lucky to meet someone who also had broken his elbow and got tired of doing therapy so quit it.  The end result was that he could barely reach a shaver to his face.  When I saw his arm, I vowed I would never quit therapy.  I continued it for an entire year and it's probably 98 percent of the original.  As you might guess, I tell everyone to do their therapy because they won't regret it but they might regret not doing it!

I'm sorry your first trip got canceled, but now you have something to look forward to when the weather and wife both get better!  ;)

Ardra, thanks so much for the very kind and thoughtful reply!  :)

We thought we could "try" the Rally (our very first rally), but the walking would do her in as she has just now graduated to a "walking boot" type cast.  It's just not easy to get around, and she gets tired very easy.  We decided it would be best for her to get rest on her School's Spring Break.

Thanks for the heads up on the Therapy.....you're the second one to tell us to make sure you follow through with good therapy.  She intends on therapy, as Workmen's Comp. is providing it.
