Most any auto parts store will have a spray-on engine degreaser. Use that and hose it down after (instructions will be on the label). Then lightly re-grease the pivot points, latch, etc. Consider using a lube pad for the flat hitch surface instead of grease. Or one of the graphite-inpregnated pads. If you use grease, spray on a light coat of a lithium-base grease. You will need to clean that off periodically and replace (preferably every trip).
