There's a couple of us they stay mad at.  Haha  Like for taking this thread too far off topic.  :)

I will try to explain and I will type slow so you can keep up. As a liberal I do not advocate for more taxes. I want the taxes that are levied to be utilized more efficiently. It?s not only the $500 toilet seats and $1200 hammers. It?s the end of year spending that is mandated. Our small office of maybe a dozen employees was told we were being given $500,000. I said no and caught a lot of flak for it. The reason being, if we didn?t spend it, our budget was reduced the following year. Five hundred thousand seems small but when multiplied throughout the DoD it adds up fast. We could have free healthcare, college, childcare, paid for maternity/paternity leave, programs for the homeless, etc, etc, if our taxes were managed efficiently. I only know about the fraud, waste and abuse in the area of the DoD that I worked in. I can only imagine how much it adds up to government wide. No, we do not need more taxes. We need to reign in unneeded spending. Was that clear enough or do you need flash cards?

OK folks, you all know the rules.

The OP?s post dealt with a novel attempt to help the needy/homeless. There?s certainly plenty to talk about there.

and, as to that...as of now, there is no working solution for the homeless problem.

So try something new...you never know, maybe 'Crowd funding' works better than our currant programs.

I saw on 60 minutes, the state of Utah found the most cost effective solution to reducing the number of homeless on the streets was to give them a free apartment,  paid for by the state.

(we need a bunch more apartments out here in CA )

There is a way to almost eradicate homelessness. Provide homes for the homeless. We can afford it. As I have pointed out in earlier posts, the US wastes enough money to feed, clothe and shelter several small countries and some large ones. Sure there will be freeloaders but so what. There are freeloaders now. You don?t like seeing folks sleeping in cardboard boxes or park benches, then give them a furnished apartment or a tiny home or whatever. I would much rather my tax dollars go towards housing the homeless than the aforementioned $500 toilet or $1200 hammer. Or worse yet, unnecessary wars.  What if I told you it wouldn?t cost you anything. What if we had a forward thinking government that could eke out some funds from our bloated budget to take care of these folks.

How about taking some of the money we spend on foreign aid to countries that hate us anyway.

Yep, and some of them actually have a job. I know because some have worked been employed by me. :( I don't see eye to eye with Gator on a lot of things, but he's got a point there, and he's right. And yes, I have met Gator, and we get along fine. It's not like he hates people because they're conservatives, he gages people by the content of their character, to steal from a famous quote.

Thank you for that compliment. I do have some conservative acquaintances and I do have some Christian friends. I enjoy a good debate as long as facts are involved. I am a bit of a political animal and when prodded will take the bait.

Perfect. Then there?s a bunch of Foregn aid money the homeless Americans could sure use. Cancel the NATO  money too.

I?m hoping our forward thinking governor here in CA will do the free apartments for all the homeless that have inundated San Francisco,
I?ll head up there and get me one. I?d love to live in the city.  :D

Wow,  Great idea Oldgater.....(see how I did that.. 8) )    look at all this money I we found,  we can sure this money to help our less fortunate citizens.

this kind of money should buy every homeless person in America a new house. and think of all the new jobs building houses etc...

I think this adds up to around  $ 4B

Right there, dude. You nailed it.

?. . . We could have free health care. . .?  Really?  Would it be free?  Nothing is free.  Some say ?free? like it?s majic money. It?s wealth distribution any way you slice it. Name one country where that crap has worked. By crap I mean socialism.

Work hard and earn what you get. THAT is simple economics.

Edited for content.
