Another New Project, Interesting one

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an RV or an interest in RVing!
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
He is going to fabricate the extension of the cab out of sheet meta instead of using fiberglass.

I think he wants to show off his welding skills.

Bill, Thank you [belatedly so I request MORE forgiveness ] for the detailed pictures of the extension removal. Thanks to your pictures I have more appreciation of Class C tow ratings and why should not carry something heavy, i.e. a motorcycle, on the back. The extension was not designed for downward force plus added stress bouncing down the road. My take is the longer the Class C extension the less downward force it can handle over time ( long lever equal less force to turn).

My WAG is the tow rating of pictured C is 3000 lbs. and 5000 lbs. is achieved with additional structural support as TheBar describes:
Under mine the frame is a C channel and was lengthened with 3" angle iron into a V shape to the rear. 5,000 lbs rating. Strong but not as strong.

Hope the conversion is nearing completion and everything is good. I do miss your updates.

Here is an update on The work truck conversion:

Chris has made progress on finishing the bed,

building the cab extension,

putting most of the doors on the under bed storage lockers,

mounting parts compartments to the back of the cab,

installing the receiver and rear lights

and painting most of it with farm implement paint.

He still has to trim the stairs with diamond plate,

replace the front sides of the cab extension with diamond plate,

cover the wheel wells,

finish the last compartment doors,

final coat of paint,

and build a new rear bumper.

It is looking more like a work truck! Got to ask what the large black box attached to the cab is for or how enter it. Tried enlarging the cab picture and looked like it is a closed at cab back?

Bill, I am guessing your motorhome is in storage as it looks like the trailer is in your drive way. Hope the big dog barking is under control and the puppy does not learn to bark? ;)

Once the trailer is finished hope he can establish a working network resulting in lots of jobs.

Lots going on but I am hoping you are taking it easy.

Jennifer and Dan

When it is finished it will really be a functional work truck.

The black box is an extension of the cab for inside storage or even room for the dogs.
It is accessed thru the front like an extended cab pickup truck with room behind the seats.

My RV is in storage.

The dogs have settled in to a comfortable and known place and do not bark much unless someone is by their trailer.

We have discussed several ideas for finding work for Chris. We are in the process of getting city license and permits for his business.

He has talked with several potential sources of customers and networking ideas, including providing temporary additional help for welding shops with large temporary projects.

With his truck, generator, welder, bending jig, and other equipment, Chris is set up to do onsite welding projects that do not have to be or cannot be transported to a shop.

We are also adding a small lifting crane so that he can load and transport material on the flat bed directly to the job site.

He already has a request to build a decorative metal wall above an existing wall across the back of a property to provide privacy screening for a swimming pool.

As for me, I spent a few days recently in the hospital but I am better now, thanks.

I know and that is why I will add my unsolicited request that you go against your nature and do not over extend your activities. Watch it or I just might show up with CHEESE! :devilish::D

When he does
build a decorative metal wall
remind Chris to take lots before and after pictures so he can build a website.

What is the company name?

Still a lot to accomplish but the construction end is in site. Next stage Chris's skill and your business leadership for a success. (Not to mention additional tools accumulated as jobs dictate).

Thank you letting us follow along .
Jennifer

I am an old lazy retired guy. I do not over extend myself. Actually, I think that I am shrinking.

The name is Blue Arc Services.

We will take pictures of the pool screening project.

That is your story and you are sticking to it! I have shrink from 66" to 63" - gravity you know.

There is a neighbor across the street from me that has recently bought the home that has the red tile roof in the picture below. When last listed it was listed for over 2 Million.

He is totally remodeling it inside and out.

He has been watching Chris build out the work truck. He came over and hired Chris to do some projects on the total remodel of the property.

I will keep you updated on Chris's new project.

Update:

The new owner that is having Chris do work for him is a retired Tug Boat Captain.

One of his projects is to mount a 1,500 pound boat prop on a base in his yard.

They were getting ready today with a fork lift and metal supplies, so Chris worked on putting some of the final touches on his work truck.

He put a coat of paint on the bed and sides.

He still has to close in the front sides of the cab extension, enclose the wheel wells, and finish the steps.

The quality of his work on the truck helped land the project across the street.

Here are some more pictures.
