Here is a quick tip for backing up trailers in a straight line.
Put your hand center top of the steering wheel and watch your mirrors. If the trailer gets bigger in one mirror ( meaning you see more of it) steer to that side and the trailer will move back the opposite direction.
Example: If I'm backing straight back and the trailer is getting bigger in the drivers side mirror I turn to the drivers side If the trailer gets bigger in the passenger mirror I turn to the passenger side to keep the trailer directly behind you.
With practice you should rotate the steering wheel no more than a quarter turn. Find a big parking lot and give it a try!
