California Fairgrounds with RV hookups

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an RV or an interest in RVing!
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Could you add this fairground to the map:
Antelope Valley Fairground, 2551 West Avenue H, Suite 102
Lancaster, CA 93536

We've stayed there a number of times since it first opened. Humongous pull-thru's, good 50A, open for satellite, tho a large asphalt paved park. Right around the corner from the highway that plays the William Tell Overture. Our campground of choice when in the area.

Thanks, it is done.

This has been a great thread. The data is nice, but the firsthand reports are gold.

Dixon May Fair fairgrounds:  30 nice, level gravel spots along the south edge of the fairgrounds. overlooking a field of mowed lawn.  Backs up to a wood fence and the backyards of a fairly new housing development.  Sites are 30 ft wide, ranging from 45 ft. long near the road (Hwy 116) to 65-70 ft. long further back.  Full time camp host on-site.  50, 30 and 20 amp electrical, full hookups although the cable TV outlets are not connected.  $25 per night. Pay at the fairgrounds office or at the ATM outside.

Take Hwy 116 south from I-80 through Dixon.  Fairgrounds are south of downtown.

Mostly quiet except for train horns from the RR mail line about 2 miles away.  This afternoon I was treated to the sounds of a a mariachi band leading a funeral procession down Hwy 116 to the graveyard across the street.

That sounds very nice. Well, more gold! We have just left Monteray.
Monteray Fariground, nice, with a permanent host, asphalt site, with some grass sites at the far end. All Back in. Services near the fence, 30/50 amp. Sites close together, may be only 17ft wide!.
Probably 50 sites.
Bad news is it is $40 P.N. less 10$ for over 65 (he  generously gave it to us being only 61). We used this to see Monteray, not to relax in an RV resort.
Felt very secure.

Tonight we are camped on Pase Robles Fairground.

(11/2011)  Paso Robles Fairground. $25  p.n. - no discounts. Very open car park. Only 6 full hook ups, no obvious security, but little trouble apparently.
No one else here - there must be a cheap camp ground somewhere close.
Paso Robles is a very pleasant little town - recommend McLintocks in the town Sq. to eat - One Half roast chicken + one salad + drinks was $16.95 and more than enough for two.
Tomorrow night Antelope Valley Fairground.
Seilerbird, can we add these reviews to the text box on the map?

I am adding them as a comment on the second column of the google doc. (anyone can now add a review/comment by selecting the cell and pressing shift and F2). Any cell with a comment has a little yellow triangle in the top right corner.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ah4HpSQvhW8adHU1dG50dmprcmpseHRqSTU1bE9tSUE#gid=0, which I uploaded at the start of the thread.
To do this I have changed to permssions so that anyone can edit the file - guess you just gotta trust people.

Another good place we have found to stay (at least in Northern CA) is Indian Casinos. We stayed a few days in the Rolling Hills Casino RV lot in Corning, CA right off I-5 a little while back. Very nice pull through sites, full hook ups, and $25 a night.
Do you want Casinos adding to fairgrounds?- I would like to know of any place which gives a safe comfortable night for $25 or less.
But a general statement needs too much work doing. Any contributions should have a name, town, address, phone number, price per night and preferably a personal review. I am happy to add them to the Fairgrounds google doc.
Lou, I have removed San Rafael. How was Petaluma Fairground?

Fastrack, you are providing really good infomation.  Thanks.

A minor correction:  the correct name of the town where the fairgrounds is located is Paso Robles, for those wanting to Google or find the town on a map.  I grew up in the area and the locals do pronounce it as if it were Pasa Robles.  ;D

I decided not to stay at the Petaluma Fairgrounds.  I decided to spend the extra cash and stayed at Novato RV Park instead. Turned out to be a good move - between construction on US 101 through Novato and the Thanksgiving weekend traffic it would have taken me an extra half hour or longer to drive to and from my Mom's house if I stayed in Petaluma.

I would prefer not to add them to the text box on the map. That would make it too unwieldy for the left pane navigation.

You are right about Paso Robles. It is a wonderful little town. I have been there many times. I used to go water skiing at Naciemento during the 60s and 70s. I always stopped there for gas and to eat.  They have a great rodeo there in the summer. If you want to go camping at a beautiful lake just head on up to Lake Naciemento. (or Nasty Meadows as we used to call it)

Fasttrack100, [sorry, Tom!]

I appreciate your opening up permissions :) . . .and expect you're keeping a currant backup! ;) It is amazing how things disappear from public files. Someone is bound to delete something, sometime, unaware.

My deceased dad's wife celebrated her 96th birthday last Friday. She is in home hospice in their home in Lakeport with my stepbrother Gale in attendance. There will probably be a sudden trip between now and the end of 2012. I hope it isn't when we head for Carolina later this year.

I don't understand what you mean by opening up permissions. What do you think I am backing up?

Well let's get some clarity round here.
My name is Terry, my username is Fastrak100.
I originally posted a list of Northern California Fairgrounds on Google Docs at the start of this thread.https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ah4HpSQvhW8adHU1dG50dmprcmpseHRqSTU1bE9tSUE#gid=0
Seilerbird, AKA Tom I believe, uploaded the very useful Google map of the Fairgrounds.
Since some people are very helpfully posting reviews of fairgrounds, which can get lost in a thread with 40+ postings, I have copied them onto the Google docs spreadsheet as a comment on column 2.
Rather than me having to update the document all the time what should be a reasonable action is to allow others to add their own review, so I have opened up permissions for the Google Docs spreadsheet to anyone (yes I know people can make mistakes, but that is life and I will try to keep a current back up. The application should inform me if someone modifies the document).
Hope that helps.
If it doesn't work, well I guess that's life.

Thank you Terry. This is great information for those of us who travel a lot in California. And thank you for Tom S for adding to Terry's work. Isn't this a great Forum ??

I have been out of touch for a while but looked for the map of California Fairgrounds that Seilerbird gave us, however the URL quoted on RV Forum is dead. Does anyone have that map?

Looks like TomS (Seilerbird) deleted his map, or maybe moved everything to another map and forgot to post the new link (?) It wouldn't have occurred to me to keep a local copy of the map, since it was available online.

Meanwhile, a google or googlemap search will bring up any fairgrounds.

Yes, I tried that. but 'County Fairgrounds' doesn't find all of them and you get all sorts of fairground related garbage if you just try 'fairground'. Shame really, it was actually for a friend.

Maybe TomS will see this discussion and let us know what happened to his map.

Help, please.

When I click on Tom's link, I am taken to the Google Maps start page, but not to Tom's map.  What to do?

Thanks.  Don
