Tim and I arrived in Camp Verde, AZ (south of Sedona and north of Phoenix) last Wednesday. We had just come from a week spent at Usery Regional Park in Mesa, AZ which is by the way a great park. It has large open sites, tons of parking and very dark skies at night. The weather was fabulous and we are really enjoying Arizona's start parks. They are very nice!
Here in Camp Verde we are parked at "Distant Drums RV park", a full hook-up campground with exceptional facilities ie laundry, club room. They have a very large open area for hiking, which Charlie sure enjoys. On Thursday we spent the day catching up on laundry, bills etc. That evening we ate at "the gathering" a restaurant located in the hotel of the local casino, dropped a few $$ in the 1 cent and 5 cent slot machines.
Friday we visited Montezuma's Castle and the Well, which is home to the cliff dweller prehistoric Indians. Saturday, we rode the Verde Valley Railroad line meandering along the scenic Verde River, sipping champagne, snacks; even saw a very large bald eagle.
This afternoon, Peg and Don Miller picked us up and gave us a tour of Sedona, a mystical-beautiful area. We had been here several years ago; but it was fun going with them. Don drove us to the Chapel in the mountain which was designed by a sculptor and Frank Lloyd Wright. It is very beautiful and the location is spectacular. All four of us toured galleries, artist shops and ended up eating dinner at their favorite Mexican restaurant.
Tomorrow Tim and I are going to Jerome while Peg and Don begin loading their coach for Quartzsite. We both leave on Wednesday; that is if Tim's package arrives on time.
I know the expectation of a mini-rally by documenting with photos, but since everyone forgot their cameras, I took a few shots on my phone. Now I have to figure out how to get the photos off my phone onto my computer; it's not a smartphone, just one of the old fashioned ones....
