I think you are coming in with the Monaco group right?

Not necessarily. We were going to caravan with them from Lancaster until I realized that a number of framily members were hooking up.

I could meet the group at Coachella on Friday evening, but it looks like the long way around to get to Pomona from Lancaster (lots of miles). Anyone know anything about the traffic between Lancaster and Pomona via Palmdale and the LA jungle? Having never been to Lancaster, Palmdale or Pomona, I have no idea if the long way around would actually be quicker.

Please remember, I'm a country boy - our local "highway" is 2 lanes and in some places we take up both lanes when we head out of town. (We even have to take turns with the farm produce trucks when crossing the bridges across the Delta sloughs.)

TIA

Admin note: I merged relevant parts of several related topics into this one and gave the discussion a new subject line. Hope I didn't confuse anyone.

Tom,

It will be a long way around to travel from Lancaster to Pomona via Coachella but dinner at "La Casita" and your companionship will make it worthwhile.
Although be aware that caravening with the Monaco's from Lancaster to Pomona is a long way, nerve wrecking, time consuming and with 100-150 coaches the caravan may strech out over 10-2 miles considering traffic, traffic lights and slow pokes. They will not park you at the fairgrounds untill the whole group is complete. But if it is a once of a lifetime thing for you you should do it and the advantage will be that you will be serviced by the Monaco service group first. (But with a Monaco who needs service anyway ;)
Maybe we can make a list who is going to caravan from the casino to Pomona and what their assigned arrival times are.
The Brewers and Mohoney have Saturday morning times and our time is Sunday at noon. We try to get in early with Brewers and Mahoney and if the parkiing commitee will not let us in at the same time we will stay at the holding area. In that case if we have others with different later arrival times we can form a second group.

Good idea Chris. Our assigned time slot is Sunday 8.00am-noon.

Chris,

It sounds like it might be less painful to meet at Coachella than to caravan from Lancaster.

Last time we talked you were going back and forth on whether you'd go to the Monaco rally. What did you finally decide to do?

Sue and I are scheduled for noon Saturday.

Jeff, does that mean they gave you a fixed time (noon) rather than a range e.g. 9.00-noon or noon-3.00pm?

Tom,

We are not attending the Monaco rally. We are leaving this Friday for Yuma and staying Friday night at the Orange Grove in Bakersfield. We have our dental appointment on March 13 and 15. Than go to Pomona via Coachella and back to Yuma on March 27. I believe Chris also has her dental scheduled for March 27.
With this schedule we would have had only 2 days at the Monaco rally and at $ 400.00 (Late registration, electric and extra night) we decided not to go.

OK thanks for the clarification Chris. Leave some oranges for us at the Orange Grove.

Here's the list of the FMCA assigned Pomona arrival times I've gathered from the messages here, although I realize that several folks are going to try to enter as a group on Saturday morning:

Saturday 8.00-12.00
Brewer
Mahoney
Zambenini

Saturday 12.00-17.00
Cousins
Dobrin
Shepherd

Sunday 9.00-12.00
Jones

Sunday 12.00-5.00
Pennings

Thanks Bernie. (Apologies, didn't realize I'd omitted you). I've added you to the list.

Our time is Sat 12-5.

Ok thanks Smoky. Wasn't aware FMCA changed it for you, although I was aware from your prior message that you were trying to get it changed. Who did you contact at FMCA? (I'd like to change mine so I don't have a guilty look on my face when I try to enter with the group)

Jeff suggested at our Mesa minirally that I call them.  I did and explained my circumstances and they made the change.  Don't remember who I talked to but if you explain to the person answering the phone, they know who to hook you up to.  It was some time ago that I did this, hope they are still open to changes.
