Hi all

Brought the new TT home tonight and pretty happy.

Bought a 2006 SunnyBrook 267 RL bought it from the original owner and it is in great shape.

Going to get it ready for winter and put it away until it makes the maiden voyage to the coast.

I was hoping someone might be able to suggest a decent insurance company to talk to and what to look for in RV insurance.

Thanks much

Paul

Hi Paul and welcome to the group!

Trailer insurance is relatively simple because it is not a motor vehicle. You will want collision and comprehensive (fire, etc) on the value of it in case of accidental damage and many insurers can add trailer coverage to your existing auto policy for a modest cost, so start with your current insurer. Make sure the policy covers electronics (tvs and such), and furnishings, appliances, awnings and such - some policies have weasel words on that kind of stuff. For example, some policies consider an awning to be an accessory even though it may have been standard equipment, simply because it is bolted to the outside of the structure.

Also make sure you get substantial coverage for personal property in & on the RV as well, both for your goods (computer, clothing, utensils, lawn furniture, etc) and accessories on the RV.

If you have homeowner or  renter insurance, you probably have personal liability coverage away from home and that would handle your liability if somebody gets injured on your campsite. If not, you may want to get something called "vacation liability" (or similar) to provide extra protection while using the RV.

A homeowner/renter policy may also some overage for your personal goods when away on vacation, so check with your agent on that as well.

Once you have your own agents quote in hand, get another from an RV insurance specialist such as ExplorerRV and see what they can do.

We have only one insurance carrier for probably 40 years.  Been totally happy.  With the multi line discounts my RV insurance costs are pretty low.  Might ask your vehicle insurance carrier for a quote including multi line discounts and see what happens.

That is what I did.  I have been with the same insurance agent/company for over 30 years.  They have already totaled one trailer from a water leak that caused soft floors through out.  Of course I insured its replacement with them also.  Insurance company is Safeco btw.

Many go with their regular insurance company that insures their house, autos and trucks.  Many owners will go to a large national insurance company dealing in RV insurance--like Progressive, GEICO or Good Sam.  There are many companies writing such coverage.

It all comes down to price and who covers what.  Many owners have different needs for coverage.

Many users will also go to Good Sam for towing coverage--or even AAA--in case there's a breakdown on the road.  It's worth the small price.
