Hot water problem

Hello,
2006 Kodiak 15' with one popout bed
just purchased was told prev. owners never used the hot water heater.
The pilot will light just fine, when I turn it on it flames up (looks and sounds normal) it will run for 1-2 min then turn off. The pilot stays lit but the water never gets hot and the burner will never turn back on (even after 2 days) I don't have a problem with replacing parts but need a place to start
hate to just guess what I need to buy.
I appreciate any suggestions.

additional notes: No owners manual, I dont see any type of bypass on the heater,outside and inside shower valves are turned off.

The make and model of the WH is usually marked on a label outside behind the big door.  With that and a bit of Google, many manuals can be found on line.

Staying lit like that says the flame detector is fine but sounds like a thermostat or overheat switch problem, you have both on a WH.

And we need to know the heater make and model to be able to offer any constructive help beyond what Stu already suggested.

Checked the label its a 6 gallon Atwood hot water heater from 2006.

Hmmmm... and the model number is???? Usually on the same label!!
