How does Coach-Net compare to CAA in Canada ?

I am thinking of switching to Coach-Net but was wondering if there are any problems with CN in rural areas in Canada .
CAA has been good for service for me but their prices are getting ridicules . The cost is a hundred bucks more for less coverage .
I do most of my RV traveling in the United States , but just wondering how the service would be in in Canada .

I've had to use CAA once for the motorhome - St-Jean Baptiste day just east of Trois-Rivieres.  There service was great and got there in under an hour, surprising since this is a major holiday for Quebec.

However, when evaluating Coach-Net and CAA, I went with CN.  I didn't hear anything negative about them, and price is/was a huge difference.  To date, I haven't had to use them, so I can't comment on the service.
 
I used Coach Net about 75 miles west on Canmore in a park in the mountains. No cell service but the local hotel had a satelite phone. Coach Net had someone there in less than an hour and the tire on the 5er was changed and we were on our way. The only concern I had was that the tow driver didn't have enough jack to lift my 5er so I had to dig out some boards from the basement and drive up on them to raise the trailer. I still love Coach Net.

I have traveled extensively in Canada and have used Coach Net.  I don't know if this applies to Canada Auto Association, but in the states AAA can be different for the different states.  For example, I live in California and if I go to Indiana, I might not have the same AAA services available as I do in California; something you might want to check with CAA.

Coach Net also includes much more services than AAA.  You can call and talk to a service tech in order to get some help that may eliminate a service call, or a tow.  Also Coach Net will have you towed to the nearest qualified service facility; whereas AAA will only tow you for a certain amount of miles/kilometers.  This often means you have to pay for the second leg of the tow or be towed to a facility you might not be comfortable with.

We've been RVing for over 10 years and have over 90,000 miles on our coach, I won't leave home without Coach Net.  We still carry our AAA service; but that's for other reasons.

Thanks , Diehard , Bob , Marsha . I did a search on CN in the forums and from what I see a quite a number of members are very happy with CN .
I called CAA and told them to cancel when my coverage comes due in January . I have decided to go with Coach-Net .

I think a major difference between CAA and Coachnet is that with CAA, the insurance is for the individual, not the vehicles. For example, if you are insured, you wife cannot phone in and ask for the road service. To have both people able to do that, both had to be members thus doubling the cost.

(At least that was the way it was when I inquired 6-7 years ago and it was the deal breaker for me.)
 
I believe the sbove is in error. CN sent cards for both myself and my wife and I'm sure all of our cars are covered no matter who calls.

Hi Ernie ,  What you said about Coach- net is true . Coach -Net covers all autos for both you and your wife .
Alfa was talking about CAA . It covers the auto that you are driving but does not cover your spouse unless a additional premium is payed .  You have to pay for each individual to be covered  .
CAA premiums are also $100.oo more for full RV coverage and they actually cover less then Coach - Net covers ,

BS CAA covers ALL your vehicles ?  and it does not add 100$ to add your RV.I bought RVplus CAA and it was 165$ I switched to Sams because it was only 80$ introductory offer Now I pay 112$

I don't know what CAA you have .  I have CAA RV Plus and have had CAA for the last 5years .
Yes it covers all your auto's but only one member . If I want to cover my spouse I have to pay for a additional membership .
The bill they sent me for the upcoming year is $ 229.00  . If i want to put my wife on it is additional $ 92.50

Coach net is $139.00 including a one time $10.00 fee . It covers you , your spouse any dependents under 25 in the same home ALL AUTOS + Towdolly , Boat Trailer etc .
How you only pay $165. is beyond me .

I am wondering who is giving the BS now .  Check the web sit above .
$229 + $92 =$321      $321-$139= $182  So with spouse actually $182 more !!!!!!!!

Another Note . Did you ever try to get service from them ?

I did on 2 occasions .  The first was at Ruby's Inn in Utah , I got hung up on my Tow Dolly and had to be pulled off . CAA said they would not cover it . The AAA tow driver said when I get home to send them his phone# and he would straighten them out as it was a simple removal . 
They would not deal with me over he phone and I had to mail them the facts . It took 2 1/2 months to get reimbursed .
#2  On the way to Las Vegas my Alternator gave up and getting into Vegas it ruined my battery and I was unable to make it to my campground so I called CAA-AAA they installed a new AAA battery of which I paid for and escorted me to the Campground . The operator said not to move my coach any further as I would lose warranty on the battery .
He said to call mobile repair , Which I did at a cost of $339 . + $50 Service call . The operator said the service call would be covered by CAA-AAA .
They would not cover it  I phoned and then had to mail out another letter with information . A few months later I received the check .
In my opinion they wouldn't accept the information over the phone hopping a person wouldn't make the effort to collect .
As for the above letter , Please don't accuse me of BS unless you actually know what you are talking about .

To clarify.It was 4 years ago and I paid 169$ for car.pickup+RV coverage.It covered all vehicles registered to me.All vehicles that I drive or wife drives etc are registered to me.I would take this as a standard procedure in most all married couples households. When I switched to GSRS it was like 79.95 and has now crept up to 112.00. Maybe BCAA has really gone up I dont know.as I have GSRS. Better coverage for less money.
I just went to the BCAA web site and its $163.30 plus tax and covers any vehicle iam driving weather its registered to me or not.including my motorhome.Premier
Premier $144.25  RV Coverage
Service and towing for motor homes, trucks with campers, and recreational trailers being towed at the time of breakdown.optional for $19.05  plus HST

two things Bill.I dont have BCAA so would not know what their policy were although I knew several years ago when I first bought it that if I did have a foreign claim that i had to pay cash and file for reimbursement
and second off I was talking about price difference compared to what I have now GSRS and its very much less for what I have now for better coverage so not sure what your point or post is all about towards me?????

Why would anyone buy a premier plus package for their wife? for what reason?
 
Looks like different provinces have different policies . As to covering the Wife . Some times she may be driving and I will not be there .
If I am not there they will not cover her . I had her just covered at 1 time because I always thought if I got a flat etc. I would handle it .
Anyway my battery went dead in Duluth MN as I forgot a cooler on in my truck . I called CAA and they said they would have to speak to the member that has the coverage before thy would send some one out . I had to pass the phone over to the wife .
Now that I am finding it harder to work on things I need both of us covered and I see the good recommendations For Coach - Net Through on the forum so I have decided to go with them .

that makes no sence.If your stranded on the side of the road and your both there and U both have coverage why would u have hand her the phone?

Your are right, it makes no sense but..... that is exactly the point!!! Only one person is covered if you do not purchase the additional coverage (effectively 2 memberships) and they will only deal with that person. How can they tell which person they are talking to??? They can't,  except perhaps by the differences in a woman's voice and a man's and the membership information given. Very subjective!

(I wonder what they would do if the two travelers were the same sex and had all the correct member info at hand.... I guess nothing, they would have to honor it..... or should the covered person be unable to talk, perhaps injured, now what???)

A poor service at best for traveling Canadians, especially when you consider that the service in USA (via AAA) can vary by state/location and sometimes come up empty. However, I have yet to convince a couple of friends  as the only RV service they have needed so far was satisfactory, (expensive but satisfactory none the less).

Iam not standing up for BCAA And i said I changed many years ago because GSRS was way cheaper and better coverage. All I said was at the time BCAA was 165$ and somehere said it was way more so I have quoted BCAA and Caa RV coverage and its 165.00 plus tax thats all I really ever said.As far as needing a spouse memebership extra that could be and i never looked at or worrie about it.If your both there on the phone and call CAA whomever has the policy would beek into the phone so in that case it matters not whom has the policy.I do know from experience if your wifes driving the car and it need s a tow and the membership is in your name and obviously the vehicle +you phone CAA and they will tow the car no questions asked
