Infrared thermometer at Harbor Freight

The IR generated is basically a cone. My Fluke IR meter has a table online that gives the distance and area of the reading.  The greater the distance, the larger the circle.
 
Another little caution. My HF unit has 2 batteries, the disc type 2032. One for the laser, the other for the measurement side.

The laser can be shut off if not required; battery life is short on the laser one.

Not a big deal, just fyi.

EDIT: Due to an editorial error I now believe the laser battery lasts longer than the thermo battery. We regret this error....  :-[

At 20' I should be able to get a decent reading from many of the hot pools. Could even get the reading of some of the rivers into which the hot pools drain. That could show swimmers why they need to stay in the areas allowed for swimming. :)
