I'm looking at an old 1950s aluminum Spartan Spartanette trailer. If I were to do anything with it, I would tear everything down to the "studs" and add insulation and redo the interior from there. How do I check for "structural" issues? Are there likely to be any? Axels and such? It's cheap, about $600. Needs new wheels, lights, etc.

Being that old, who knows??  Since it aluminum, there should be no rust!  ;D  My concern would be cracks in the frame.  Even hairline cracks can become a big problem over time.  Big cracks are a problem NOW!

Since you plan a total rebuild, I would replace the axles.  You get new brakes that way, too.  Once it is torn down, I would have a good welder or metals fabricator take a real good look at the frame.

At that price, it is worth most of that as scrap metal if it is not worth rebuilding.
