We have gone fulltime and are workamping. Now that we have set the motorhome up for an extended period, how do we service the LP? We have a class a and the bottle is not removable. Any ideas??

Locally, I can drive right up to the LP dealer's pump on a front corner of the building.  At some campgrounds, I tell them I want LP when I'm checking in, and then they direct me (or I follow an escort) to their pump/tank - and they pump it.  At some longer term campgrounds, a tanker will go to the individual rigs.

When you look at a campground directory, look for the words "metered LP", or something like that.

We like to volunteer as campground hosts at noncommercial campgrounds and have found it difficult to get LP, once setup.  Last winter we were on a Nature Conservancy property in southern Arizona.  I called every LP dealer in the area and non would deliver, even though they drove right past making other deliveries.  To get LP we had to tear down, unhook and drive the motorhome to town.  Consequently, we bought two electric space heaters and used LP only for cooking.  Currently, we are on the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway in N.W. Wisconsin and have found the same.

Conversely, a couple of years ago we wintered in a commercial RV park in Texas where LP delivery was available weekly.  Just this last spring we were in Texas on our way home from the AZ gig, and RV delivery trucks came through weekly.

BTW; where are you workkamping?

One option is the "Extend-a-Stay" from Marshall Brass.. This device is a multi-purpose adapter that allows you to run a grill or other Propane device designed for throw away tanks to work off the main tank on the motor home.

It also allows the motor home to use external bottles. which can be disconnected and hauled to the re-fill place.

It has check valves to insure one tank does not back fill another

IT has an "Excess flow" valve that acts as a safety should you blow a gas line. (And may cause issues if you don't understand them)

Very useful device.

How could I have forgotten about "Extend-A-Stay"s?  Obviously, I haven't had the occasion to use ours.

John - are the instructions pretty good?  Do I need to modify any fittings at the tank?  (Seems to me I read something about that on another forum)

The "Standard" install of the Extend-a-stay

1: Turn off LP
2: Disconnect regulator from Tank, note POL fittings are left handed threads. Righty-loosey
3: Connect POL male fitting on Extend-a-stay to tank, Pay attention to the angles of the two AUX connectors (you may need to connect to those)  NOTE: Lefty tighty
4: Connect regulator's POL fitting to Extend-a-stay's Female POL fitting.. NOTE. you may have to move the regulator or re-route hoses somewhat.. I did not.

5: Turn on gas and check for leaks

To use an external tank: Remove external inlet plug, hook up included inlet hose, hook hose to tank (NOTE you may need an extension, your propane provider can provide)

To use an external propane appliance,,, Hook included 10' hose to quick disconnect (Looks like the top of a throw away bottle) and hook other end of hose to appliance.. (or to optional additional extension hose)

It is really that simple.. NOTE there is a safety cap included for the inlet and outlet.

I have two Extend a Stays installed.  One feeds the onboard RV appliances and the other one feeds the propane generator.  I make a habit of keeping the fixed tank full and in reserve for emergencies -- like Hurricane Ike last year.  I stay parked in remote locations for months at a time and I have accumulated several small 40lb tanks off Craig's list at a reasonable price.  The system has worked well for almost 3 years now.

I rigged a hose from the main line to additional portable 5 gal tanks.  I have two of them that I run on until they are empty, than run on the main tank while I go fill the two bottles.  I put the two bottles in the compartment next to the main tank and ran a hose to them there.  I found that way in winter I would only fill them once a week and in summer once a month if that often.  Main tank I top off once every 3 to 6 months while traveling from one place to another.
