My camper is in Roscoe, NY and I need to have my 40 pounders re certified and can't seem to find anyone that does it. If anyone can help that would be great. Tanks look in great shape as they haven't been exposed to elements in my 2009 Outback. If I had to buy new tanks how much do they generally go for.

Thanks,
Andre

Did you try any of the larger propane suppliers?  Most of near me, in Norther NY, do it.  If you are customer thay may do it for free.

I used Ameri Gas in FL. Are there any in your area?
Why do you say they need to certified. The RV is years 8 old so the tanks may be about the same age.

One year ago they were good for 12 years. That may have changed recently to 10 years and then it may have gone back to 12 years.

In NY it's 19 years and I'm thinking ahead to next season. Tried American gas too.

I assume you mean 9 years, not "19",  but according to the certified refiller I use in upstate NY that recertified my DOT cylinders, NY State follows the Federal DOT re-certification regulations in 49 CFR 180.209(e). The initial recert period was recently changed from 12 years to 10 years by the PHMSA (Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration) division of the DOT, but enforcement of the change has been suspended pending a review of  the NPGA (Natonal Propane Gas Association) petition to return to the 12 year rule.

On edit: Try this list from the PHMSA and see if there's someplace close enough to you to take your cylinders to:

It's called AMERIGAS. Try this Web site for location near you:

Does this help

Have you tried Google: Propane tank recertification near (zip code)

Or ask the RV park where you park "Who supplies your Propane"

I know at least 2 companies in Michigan that do it, but .. Well they are in Michigan.

Gas tank re-cert is another example of a service that has become hard to find as a result of civil lawsuit liability concerns. Any perceived "failure" of the LP tank after a shop tech "certified" it could result in the type of lawsuit that is very difficult (and expensive) to defend against.  The lawsuit would say something to the effect that the tech "should have known" the tank was damaged/defective because he is a professional LP technician, yet in reality he has only modest training and the time to do only a superficial inspection. And that's all the gas codes require as well. But when the civil lawsuit comes, the standards get raised in ways the laws never intended.

How about a place that sells compressed gases? A place that sells oxygen, acetylene, argon, etc.

I bought 2 new tanks for $65 each at Tractor supply.

$80.00 at Tractor Supply:

I purchased mine last year so it looks like the price has changed.
