The only place we stopped at Phoenix was north of there on 303 Loop and we did pull into a shopping center because I heard whistling also on 303.

Carolyn

Driving up the 303 you passed a number of Forumites. We live about 2 miles east of the 303 and about 2 miles north of I-10. There is a contingent living at Happy Trails, about 1 mile west of the 303 in Surprise.

One of our favorite stopping points between Phoenix and Las Vegas is Dazzo's for Chicago style hot dogs and Italian beef in Wikieup, AZ, about 75 mile north of Wickenburg on US 93. Even has a campground in the back and good price for propane.

We are fine, I have been sitting aside extra money when we travel for contingencies.  I've read of to much stuff happening so I just assume something will then I'm not surprised.

This morning the mechanic comes out, says this has to be ready to go by 9, we had been up, dressed, vacuumed, just had to pull in the slides and unhook the electric.  We have our toad and we had to come into the lounge as they took it to a muffler shop.  It's close by because he wasn't gone long.  I'm sure these repairs won't be cheap but like someone else said if you buy one of these things you shouldn't complain about cost.

I wish I had gotten my dirty laundry out, we could have found a laundromat.  As it is I think we will try to find a beauty shop and get Sue Anne's hair cut and wash the toad.  It's filthy, has tar all over it.  It's not sticking but still needs washed off.

We will wonder around a bet today today.

Carolyn,

I'm so glad you're safe and have been able to find help and fixers.  You pointed out a couple of good lessons for all of us, but perhaps especially new RVers who may think some of these things aren't very important.

1) Always make sure your CO and smoke alarms are working and have fresh batteries.  So glad you have good hearing, Carolyn!  I hate to hear unknown beeps but it's always a good thing to stop and check it out.  Anything that goes wrong with an exhaust system can cause fumes.  Don't ignore beeps!

2) Avoid hitting seemingly harmless "things" on the highway, in this case the rubber allegators.  Anything that hits the underside of your RV can cause enormous damage and a so-called trivial item can result in some very expensive repairs.

Hope you have a restful day.  You were on the Joshua Tree Parkway earlier.  It's pretty.  When you get to the Hoover Dam area, the new bypass bridge is finished.  Yes, it's really high above the Colorado River - but you won't see much from the bridge.  If you're inclined to stop it will be on the NV side where you can go see the dam.

We  had been across Hoover Dam in years past and stopped, but did not today.  They got everything finished, I checked oil, air pressure, tranny fluid, all good.  In the interim we had time to get the car washed it was so bad you couldn't even see out of the windshield after the rain and road work we went through.  Also got both Sue Anne and I's hair done, they did a very nice job.

So I fueled up and off we went.  We stopped past Dolan Springs and had a quicky microwave lunch and Sue Anne got her pills, what a nag .

I didn't get a chance to get a Vegas map so just headed for Vegas Blvd.  I couldn't remember which end Circus Circus was on so stopped and asked, of course we were on the north end and its on the south, so off we go down the blvd in the motorhome, I'm thinking you are nuts lady.  But wasn't bad today, not only the off season but also the recession I think.  Oh my gosh I've never seen so many I'm sure homeless folks drifting around, so sad.

We parked in the back of Circus Circus was going to go to the Manor and ask about RV parking and we just walked through the back parking lot and there it was so off we went.

I got settled in, its a KOA campground by the way.  And there are some luxury units in here and I think I saw a nicely maintained 70's something too.  It's fine here, in the summer has to be hotter then blue blazes but not now and with the fence, good security, its asphalt but there are trees around and the islands with the services are well maintained, very clean place.

We went in, lost a few dollars, walked around walked through the Adventure Dome, had dinner and walked backtot he motorhome.  I needed to do some laundry AGAIN.  I'm sitting here now listening to these poor machines, they are clean but I think these front loaders are about to self destruct.  I had them park me close to one of the laundry rooms, only 2 washers in it and 2 dryers and one doesn't work.  I'm going to have to try the store for change as I don't have enough to get all the items dry I'm sure, so that's next. Tomorrow I will do 2 more loads probably of jeans!  and we will be caught up again.

Today was pretty easy driving we had wind but not that bad.  I know if the air bags had not been fixed it would have been miserable so really happy they did that.

The folks were nice, I think the price charged was very reasonable as I saw their hourly charge was $88.00. I got both lines repaired and the motorhome taken to a mufller or RV shop where they replaced the tailpipe, looks like stainless and I think curved a bit different but a nice job.  The total was $325 I believe and taking off a night I didn't have to pay for a park not bad at all in my opinion. I really thought it would be more.

Ok, ready to throw those items in the dryer and make a change run, later all.

I'm going to see about getting tickets for Chris Angel for Sue Anne, she has been wanting to see that show.  Last time we were here for some reason we didn't get to see it.  So I'm going to look at either Fri or Sat nights performances, as usual the show prices here are expensive but we knew that also and we don't get to go to them very often.  We haven't attended any out here that weren't worth the cost.

I also need to check and see about propane delivery here.  I have 3/4s of a tank but its very cold at night 37 last night and will use quite a bit at night.  We like to be toasty warm.

I'm going to the main laundry this morning as we aren't going to be out much until noon today anyway and finish all of it.  I counted 10 pair of jeans between us dirty and her and my linens need washed again.  That should mean only laundry maybe having to be done 1 more time before we hit home.  We have enough clothes but I don't want all the dirty ones around.

I'm wondering how bad the weather could be on I 40 going back.  Not leaving till Sunday and I know Amarillo can be awful even this time of year.  Since we aren't going to have time to meander and stop where I wanted because of our MHMR review I have to be home before I planned to.  I was thinking the end of the month, now he wants to see us before the 28th.  Our caseworker has known for a year we planned to be gone this month,  I'm rather aggravated but nothing I can do about it. Sue Anne has to have insurance and there is nothing we can buy, beg, or steal for coverage for her so its medicaid and now she does also have medicare.  but without her being in medicaid she would fall off the state supported group home list.  It took almost 12 years for her name to come up, so we cannot afford to lose that, someday it will be needed though I doubt there are enough to even begin to service all these young adults when they are needed.  We hope to pay for private but with the costs rising exponentially and our own costs for medicare I just can't see it happening.  Sometimes I think we should save every dime for her but then how can you assure she gets it.  Our attorney said parents try to provide but between the state taking it and heirs, that I'm not concerned about, it seldom works like parents plan for it to. So we are doing both, saving and spending some too.  We are probably not doing the right thing, but I hope to make her life pleasant for as long as we can.  And we have waited for years to do much of anything like have a motorhome.

To make us feel better I may just have to book us a cruise for sometime in December, that should do it. ;D  And will be our Christmas present to us!  (Yes, I'm saving even more as you can tell)  But that will be it for this year, it was to be spaced out more but with her sick this year and other stuff it didn't happen like I planned.

They have our Mastercard account screwed up again.  It was for a couple of months then they got it fixed.  They have added a bunch of fancy new stuff and now the online account is screwy.  When the month was cut off I owed $581.50 which I promptly paid online but it did not carry the balance over.  Ending balance, $581.50, beginning balance 0 and the payment didn't hit till the next day.  So now its showing a credit day after day.

It's not just me its anyone that keeps their bill paid so they don't owe interest.  I think they are trying to make you pay so you have to pay interest or they are just screwed up.  I thought when it was fixed before that was it but looks like it is back.  I will just add up my charges and pay that amount, it will eventually sort itself out when they fix it again.

Carolyn, I know Tom is thinking about a newer diesel pusher and there is an option found in some used DPs that you night not be aware of to keep you toasty warm: in the floor itself recirculating heating using fluid. A 2nd option that might be in your coach now is int your roof AC's. Many roof AC's have a heat strip option you can run at night while on shore power and thus set your thermostat lower and burn less propane. Some coaches have had OEM AC's replaced with heat pumps which provide even more heat. :)

This article on in floor heating is helpful with background info: http://tinyurl.com/In-Floor-Heating. I've been in a Country Coach that has it, Russ Mahoney's, and I hope that others here with knowledge as to what systems are in diesel RV's will reply with lots of useful information.

Who knows, I may come into a windfall and be in the market for a newer diesel pusher and wanting such an option!

I checked AccuWeather for Flagstaff for the next 15 days and no snow in the next 10. If Flag has no snow, and Amarillo is only forecasted for showers next Tue, you're probably only dealing with tail winds until you turn broadside to go south. You will have Dallas  freeways to drive in.

I could skirt Dallas, we lived in Irving for a few years so familiar with the area up there I worked in Dallas for some years and drove from out by the Colony, horrible horrible drive, took forever.

I could take 287 out of Amarillo then hit 283 in Vernon and go down to 20 and miss the major major Dallas traffic and then take I 45 home.

How rough is 40, haven't driven it in a long time.  Traffic wasn't bad at all on I 10 but looks like I need to cut some time so this would work better if the weather is good.  I have the weather band radio also.

I think the diesel pusher does have a heat strip but we are pretty sure we are replacing both AC's so we can get them with it.  Also depends on the furnaces we have not checked them at all.  I think it does have an almost 30 gallon propane tank though, but haven't checked yet to see how the 10 gallons of water is heated either.

Have to look at that when we start checking on things.

I'm getting this one cleaned up in the morning.  A guy here is washing them for $2 a ft, nice job too and $10 extra for the roof so $68, I don't think you can beat that.  It will be dirty again but not like it is now.

If ? ::) didn't have email I wouldn't know I needed to be home would I. ::)

Ok, we are off to run around for the day, clothes all clean, motorhome neatened, Sue Anne ready to roll, boy is she ready.  Chris Angel tickets to buy.

Gotta go!  later all

I get a kick out of some of these folks, look like they have moved in forever.  Flowers and decorations out, pretty nifty, but the rates here are not cheap can't imagine staying for to awful long unless they give good monthly rates.

Now that's unusual, Miss Black kitty is on the other side of the front curtain looking out the window.  I wonder how long that will last she is so skittish.  Maybe she will lay in the sunshine there. I set the AC for 78 in case it gets really warm in here today.

Carolyn,

We were on I-40 about a month ago and it was OK.  Construction in a couple of places but may be finished by now.  The road was actually better on those stretches.

Dan

If you have not gotten your tickets to chris Angel I would suggest going to Tx for tonight sometimes you get a pretty decent discount.

We are going to get them tomorrow for tomorrow nights performance at 7PM, they said they only discount them same day and we can pick them up at Circus Circus.

We walked from the Tropicana w a y down the strip today.  Sue Anne got to go to the Coca Cola store, got pictures with the bear, they are cute.  Also M  & M store.  We stopped at the MGM and lost some dollars.  Had lunch at the Rain Forest Cafe, always enjoy that, they have one in Galveston too.  I had the grilled tuna with a sauce, delicious, she had the biggest hamburger I've even seen, she managed to eat half plus onion rings. Just to much food.

We didn't really buy anything but did a lot of walking and a lot of looking today. We stopped in a lot of other stores.

Tomorrow she wants to go back and ride the monorail, she enjoys that.  We are taking the bus tomorrow and not driving, its just easier then trying to get around at least for me.

Probably go to Luxor about 4 and then we can roam around down there till the performance starts. For some reason my camera chip doesnot fit in this computer so can't post pictures.  I took quite a few of the fish at Rain Forest, we sat right by the tank, really gorgeous fishs.

Tomorrow she wants to go back and ride the monorail, she enjoys that.

There are three monorails in LV.  The one on the east side of the Strip (MGM to Hilton) is owned by the city and costs $5 per ride.  The second one on the west side (Bellagio to City Centre to Monte Carlo) is owned by MGM and is free to ride.  The third one is also on the west side (Mandalay Bay to Luxor to Excalibur) is owned by the casinos and is free to ride.

We just got in, its after 11PM and we are pooped.  Had a great day.

We went to the Venetian, rode the deuce there.  Walked through the canal shops, had lunch in a restuarant there, had pizza.  We went on a gondola ride, Sue Anne couldn't wait to do that, got some good pictures from there also.

We stopped at a casino for an hour or so to kill time, that cost me $20 in the slots but at least I played for awhile.  I lost $20, Sue Anne played forever on a dollar, go figure.

I didn't realzie how far the Luxor was from there and we walked and walked, Sue Anne's feet hurt so we finally ended up taking a cab the rest of the way. But she needs the exercise bad and I am going to have to make sure she gets more of it in the future. The Chris Angel show was good, Sue Anne loved it.Then we ended up going to the wax museum today, it was quite interesting.

There was no way we were walking from the bus or anywhere so we got a cab back to our door tonight, ahhhhhh.

The fellow got the motorhome washed down today and it looks really clean.  He is coming by for his money in the morning.  I know it won't be when I get home but at least it will be easier to clean without so much crude on it.

Ok, maybe some soup, a shower, and we are done.  We sure had a full day today.

She is killing me!! ;) But its in a good way.

I think I wore Sue Anne down, ha! ha! ha!  I'm not sure she is even going to be able to take on Fremont street tonight.  She is pooped out, I love it!  She is always wanting to go go go.  Right now she is still in pajamas and playing on her computer in the bedroom and its almost noon.

I know I'm worn out.  Sue Anne wants to go to Fremont Street and I guess I will, we will have dinner too likely at the buffet in Circus Circus, then we will take the bus or a taxi on to Fremont, I'm not walking a lot tonight. the ladies in the KOA store said its only 3 blocks long and really something to see so we will do that.  But I'm not staying late.  I want to get a good nights sleep, will be driving all day tomorrow.

I have driven by a Monaco that must have come in last night or today several times.  It's in sad shape, I'm hoping they have just driven through lousy weather and it needs washed.  But then going by again I see a piece over a wheel well torn off, ok a blow out.  But then I see plastic torn off the side a fill up or something and the cover for the furnace or water heater off.  I'm just hoping that they just need these things fixed when getting home, if not, it would make me very sad to see such an expensive wonderful piece of machinery being so neglected.  We could never afford something like that and I can't imagine people that could letting it get in poor condition.  I'm thinking its just repairs that need to be made when they get home, I want to believe that.
