I sure wouldn't want to visit you with the backfire that sounds like gun fire, Tom :D When I was going to college I used to cross the Walt Whitman bridge in Phila. Typical college student barely surviving.....anyway, as I was going through the toll gate I de-accelerated and the ole car backfired. Everyone ducked thinking it was gun fire :D Felt like a goof, but no one shot...........

Later that evening, one of the rangers knocked on our door and asked "do you have a generator problem?". When I said "yes", she replied "Thank goodness for that! Someone reported gunfire down here".

Kind of laid back if they thought there really was gunfire !! Lucky you that she wasn't standing at your door with gun drawn :)

She had her hand on the gun, but it was still holstered  ;D

i once camped next to a old couple in mi. and she complaned about the camp fire, she couldn,t understand why we needed a fire.it seems that some people have no tolarnce for other poeple and their way is the only way. some people have nothing better to do than to sit at their rv and judge other people. an old guy once told me "if somone is getting your goat tie it at another tree" those words have served me well, i just wish i could do it all the time

In my wife's former job her supervisor was telling us (she and I) how all her residents (She was a housekeeper in a senior complex) were complaining of the job she was doing (Wife was on extended medical leave at the time).  Meanwhile residents would stop me in the hall and tell me how GREAT a job she did. Oh well. I won't get in the middle of that just now.

But I still remember an old tv show, I think it was a Disney show (Davey Crockett or Daniel Boon) where one character, says something like "Some folks would complain if you hung them with a new rope"

Some folks are not happy unless they have something to complain about.

And I've heard backfires.. And I've heard gun fire all sorts of guns.  I do not often make the mistake

(Joke... Comparing Detroit to Northville (Two offices where I worked)  One of the comparisions is "you come to work and you hear shots fired, Northville: It's the gun range out back of the office,  Detroit: TAKE COVER!

I do wonder about people who will pull up to a quiet area and let lose with all the "Yuppy" toys. Many times we have been sitting outside enjoying the evening and here they come...usually the people with more money than brains and more "stuff" than one can believe. It probably goes to the other thread as to why someone would pull up near you when there are many spots far away.

Maybe the enjoy irritating people and flat tires...who knows.

I am as opposite to a "Yuppie" as you can get.  We go camp to relax, sometimes that means sitting around and listening to music, sometimes it means just sitting around.  Either way, I do try not to bother others, but sound travels differently at different places and different wind conditions.  By all means, if my music is bothering you, come ask me to turn it down or ask the park people to come ask me to turn it down if you're scared to talk to someone.  I can't say I've been anywhere that if you simply asked someone to hold down the noise it turned to an argument unless you go over there rudely.

On the flat tires thing, I sure hope you aren't implying that you would give someone a flat tire before just asking them to respect your camping experience.  I do have to say, if I woke up to flat tires because someone was to chicken to come ask me to turn down my music, the game would be on.  I try to be very respectful to others, but I expect that in return.  To me flattening someones tires is crossing the line.

Slumber said, "some people have nothing better to do than to sit at their rv and judge other people"

I think that describes exactly what makes me a little satirical in this thread.

IMO there is a fine line between saying that "loud music is wrong so don't do it", versus saying "my own preference is to enjoy silence, and can we work something out?"

In the first instance someone is forcing their own judgment on someone else (even though a majority of people may have that judgment).

In the second instance the person who likes silence is respecting the fact that other people like noise, and that both views can be happily compromised to work out a mutual solution.

I think in this thread we have already seen a wide spectrum of opinions.  Some like it "hot" with a party atmosphere, groovy sounds flowing about etc,.  some like it lukewarm, such as David in the message above mine... Quiet listening to outdoor music at times.  And some like it ice cold...total silence and solitude.  All kinds of shadings within the spectrum.

Within my own family there is a difference.  My dog and I love outdoor sounds be it TV or MP3.  The Admiral only likes outdoor conversation, not music or football.  The cat only likes EVERYTHING to be indoors.  ;D

Of course, if the campground has published rules, that overrides everything, as you can find another campground if you don't like the rules.

Interesting and starting to see opinions develop ;) "Laws are made for those who can't think," seems to sum things up..I guess. Sure was easier a few hundred years ago. ;D Easier to alter the gene pool.  ::) Of course the population was a lot lower then and today we are approaching the life style of rats...too many people competing for resources and such. Maybe the cave isn't such a bad idea afterall

Must have been nice in 1793 US......

Oh, yeah, dysentary, smallpox, influenza, death in childbirth, average life expectancy 45....yeah, just swell.

And TB ;) I was lucky because my ancestry did live to ripe old ages....usually 90's. Amazing considering the number of kids they had ::) Not to mention a tough life by today's standards....heck today they would be dead at 40 ;D

I'm always appalled when somebody starts setting up an outdoor entertainment system.  I've seen two couples post speakers around the perimeters of their sites.  Too often such offenders are friendly, likeable people who seem to feel that pleasantness makes everything OK.

Touched a nerve here.

Well, you guys have certainly convinced me not to get the outdoor entertainment system on the new MH.

Kind of a shame.? I was working out a trade.? My new 40" Sony LCD is too big, but I was about to trade it for a 32" Samsung with installation paid by the other party.

Well said Slumbert!  ;D

Curt, don't be so easily convinced.  Why not get one of those full sized projection units and set up a "walk-in" movie theater... bring your own chair variety?

Heheh, just kidding of course.  ;D

But I would not let the "left" side of the opinion spectrum deter you from an outside system.  Heck, they would not be so popular on motorcoaches and trailers if a lot of people did not enjoy them.  We do not have a "built-in" outdoor system, but we do have a sliding tray with a 14 inch flat screen and also an outdoor docking system with speakers for our ipod.  We have spent many pleasant outdoor hours watching football, and listening to Beethoven or George Strait.  It is how you use your system around others that is important.  Like Slumbert says, pleasantness is much more desirable than intolerance.

I dunno.? Do RV parks prohibit me from selling popcorn?

As one of the other gentleman noted, some people today would rather fight or shoot rather than change.

I had an experience in Las Vegas about 5 or 6 years ago, where I was confronted by another camper, who obviously had a bad night at a casino, where he thought he was going to attack me with a tire iron because I had my engine running prior to leaving the campground.  At the time, I had an older coach that took a while to air up the suspension.  He obviously did not like it.  It was 8:30 in the morning.  I stood my ground with nothing, but told him while he was having a dinner, I would surely have a breakfast.  Told him if he had a complaint, take it to the office and get out of my face.

Gee Ron, in an RV park? There are a lot of unhappy campers around the Casino's  ;) and it seems that is where a lot of problems occur...in my observations................Guess they can alter a person's mood if their wallet is empty :)

They have wireless headphones which are very nice. I carry ear plugs but they have a downside, in that you can't hear sounds that may alert you to an emergency.
