I notice that Pilot stations are starting to install rv islands, possibly taking a clue from Flying J now that they own that facility.  Are all of the Pilot facilities doing this?

haven't seen any here yet, but I thought flying J and pilot was the same company, I know my reward card for pilot says flying J also works at both places

some stations here in Tennessee havnt adopted the members card yet either, i did see a couple of pilots that have an RV lane but that said they dont take care of them too good because there is diesel and slop all over the ground around the pumps :(  thats why i carry them throw away booties so when i get out i dont track diesel back into the coach :)

that's a shame the pilots around here are clean and very helpful,

these statins i say are messy are over by nashville tn,  the ones over here on the eastern side of Tn seem to be nice....

Pilot bought Flying J, so yes they are the same company. But Pilot had 100+ locations before buying FJ, so not all facilities are the same. Nor do all have room to add an RV island, whether they want to or not.

Both FJ and Pilot had some dealer (contract) locations, i.e. not owned by the parent company. Those locations are not obligated to do the same customer services or sales promotions, or to accept the same credit cards as the mother company. If they choose not to do the RV program, there isn't anything we - or Pilot - can do about it.  Makes it hard on travelers, though, since they are still authorized to hang the Pilot or FJ sign out front. We can gripe all we like, but Pilot/FJ sells a lot of fuel through those outlets and isn't likely to give up the revenue just to make life easier for you and me.

The contract locations are operated by Bosselman Inc, I90 Fuel Service Inc, and Town Pump Inc.  The Pilot/FJ Rv Guide identifies these with the Dealer icon and notes that RV fuel discounts are at the truck islands only. I'm not even sure that is 100% true.

Pilot/FJ RV Guide for 2013

I don't bother to use my FJ/Pilot card. In most cases I have to see the cashier, and then they want me to leave my credit card at the counter or tell them how much gas I want. The discounts are pennies. Without the discount card I'm in and out with no hassles.

I use my FJ/Pilot card to start the pump and avoid one walk to the office; it works at >90% of the Pilot/FJ's I've tried it at.  Sure the discount is peanuts but I'm going to use a truck stop for fueling anyway, so I might as well get the best deal.  Remember, the discount is 3 cents off of the cash price regardless of whether the payment is cash, a debit card, or a credit card.  Some other truck stops will treat a debit card the same as cash; some won't.  I've yet to get a Love's to give me the cash price on a debit card and some T/A's will and some won't.

If you're really in a hurry at a FJ/Pilot you can use your rewards card along with a VISA card (debit or credit) and do an entire pay at pump transaction.  the only downside I've noticed is that most of the time this will give you 3 cents off of the credit price, not the cash one.  But, if you're really in a hurry it does work.

the one here that I use the most is just a nice place great food its been the only one I have seen with a pizza bar, they give discount off for food and or drinks, I drive a lot for work and cover 96% of the state of Louisiana so when I find a good place I tend to use it a lot.

I can not speak for pilot but If I was in a pilot where it was that messy and it was clear it was not a case of "The customer in front of me".

I'd be on the computer typing a letter to the Management before the day was done.

Likewise if you find one that does not honor the card.

Get on the net and let management know.

Behinds can be kicked.    And management has professional kickers.

i did get online and report it to the corporate office BUT in a cheesy email i got back from some secratary it said that that store was a franchise store and i needed to contact the store owner,,,,,

so i did and i got ZIP back as a reply, the station in question is in Lebanon Tn (just outside nashville

It's crappy customer relations for that franchise dealer in Lebanon, but if they don't care what Pilot says/thinks about them, why would you expect them to respond to you?

I avoid all the dealer locations.

What ever floats your boat...it's a gas station....99% my card is accepted, the diesel is clean, (high turnover) I use the truck side, and I have observed the pilot is cleaner than the flying J's

My problem with Pilot (as opposed to Flying-J) is that many of them (maybe all) here in the east do not sell gasoline for us 'gasser' RVers.

In my [Eastern] experience they all have regular gas islands out front. The Pilot (non-FJ) locations usually don't have special RV lanes, though. I guess that's almost the same as not having gas if you are driving a 34+ foot coach and towing a car.

I have had that experience at more than one Flying J. They seem to think all motorhomes are diesel.  I also had an interesting experience in Billings, MT.  Unless they changed recently, you pull in, full up with gas and then you find out that, despite the big sign outside, the gas pumps are not FJ, only the diesel pumps.

It's worse than that -- diesel isn't all FJ, either, in spite of the FJ signs. It does, however, say Town Pump, along with FJ (I didn't know the difference that made). And I was fortunate that, although I couldn't properly use the rewards card to start the pump (for example), I did get cash price for diesel when paying with a credit card ($.06/gal savings for 95 gallons is nice).

On the south side of that exit there is a Flying J, while on the north side is a Pilot, both having Town Pump labels also (once you get into the station -- I was exploring this in my toad, since I stayed there overnight). They both also have Conoco signs. Note that the above experience was at the Flying J on the south side of the exit.

It's weird...

Dave & Larry, Town pump is a MT institution and evidentially is a FJ/Pilot franchisee.  There is a Pilot/Town Pump at the 287 interchange in Three Forks as well as others throughout the state.  I don't know when this happened but it was a year or so after the FJ/Pilot merger.  Dave probably knows that there are 3 TP stations in Belgrade plus a FJ.  TP also has a lot of casinos various names throughout the state, usually in gas stations
