My 2005 Fleetwood Discovery came with a front AC unit of 9K (with heat pump). I don't think that small a unit will be enough for our Texas summers. I am thinking of replacing it with a matching 15K unit. I wrote to Coleman and here is their reply:

IF you are looking for a low profile 15,000 to replace your 9001C879 I would use the 47004A879 to replace the unit.    It will mount up the same and you can use your existing equipement (thermostat and ceiling assembly).    My only concern would be that the amp draw on the unit will increase by about 4 amps.

From an earlier email from a different tech person at Coleman:

All of our roof top units are rated for the same wiring and breaker size.  The only problem you may run into is how the AC matches up to the application.  The Polar series that you have has been discontinued, and replaced by the Mach 8 series (lower profile).  The model numbers I would recommend are listed below.  The attached document should help you through any mounting issues you may have due to the application.  Let me know if you have any questions.

If original does not have a condensate pump:
13,500 BTU = 47003A876(white), or 47003A879(black)
15,000 BTU = 47004A876(white), or 47004A879(black)

If original has a condensate pump:
13,500 BTU = 47023A876(white), or 47023A879(black)
15,000 BTU = 47024A876(white), or 47024A879(black)

If you are unsure about the condensate pump, get me the full model number of the original unit, and I will let you know for sure.

Eric

As you can see they are both recommending the same unit. I am guessing the thermostat and heat pump "stuff" are interchangeable - basically plug and play. Anyone see anything I am missing? My current breaker size for the front AC unit is 20 amps.

15,000 would be my choice. clean the roof when you remove the old unit.
I have never heard of a 9K a/c-

The most popular front a/c units are the Dometic Penguin II's--low profile 13.5 btu units.  If possible, you can install them ducted into the same ductwork as your rear a/c unit.

If you go non-ducted, such a unit can keep hanging meat cold enough for long term storage.

They're not particularly difficult to install.  Worst part is getting a 100 lb. a/c unit up on the roof.
