Travelling from Little Rock, Arkansas on I-40 thru Oklahoma and Northern Texas on my way to Alburquerque. Is there anything that is a must do along this path?

As always, I appreciate the advice.

Near Amarillo is Palo Duro Canyon.  Definitely worth a day and they have a campground in the canyon.

Stop in Oklahoma City and visit the Federal Building memorial and museum, daytime at the museum and a nite time look at the memorial. It very touching all lit up.

Yep, it's flat.  And dry.  But I am in Indiana right now, and would give anything for a little dry air.  And X2 on the OK memorial.  One of the most moving places I have ever been.

Palo Duro Canyon and the Memorial. Got it.  Thanks a bunch guys. I have set up a blog of our trip so far. If you guys want a laugh check it out.

We'd add our support to the OK City memorial.  DW and I saw it last year and we continue to debate if it ranks as number 1 or 2 best, most moving memorial we have visited.  I continue to rank Hiroshima slightly ahead but in Donna's opinion that one is more moving.  However, west of there we enjoyed to overall drive but we'd have no "must sees".

In OK, has anyone been to Broken Bow Lake area?? Any suggestions on where to stay or not stay?

If coming thru OK the weekend of 10-15-17? Robbers cave state park has a great fall festival and car show. It is located N. of Wilburton, OK.

Sights? Yeah, cactus, tumbleweed and dust devils.  ;D

As opposed to a bunch of seniors in FL playing shuffle board in shorts and black socks? Hmmm. It's a toss up.

I second the suggestion about the The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in OKC.  But it's at least a 3-4 hour event if you want to take it all in.  Call them and see if they still have the Wednesday free admission this time of year.

The city zoo....and if you have kids (or just want to act like one) the science museum next to the zoo (all kinds of "hands on" activities).  And after all that wholesome family entertainment - there is an Indian Casino near there (Remington Park).  But the best is the Memorial!

TenKiller Lake is nice, Beavers Bend State Park is very nice....both are a little out of your way.  Just the thought of highway conditions of 40 from FS to OKC would make me consider a different way.....That has to be one of the worst stretches of pavement in the country.  69/75 South from Chacota to Broken Bow isn't any better either.

One thought would be from LR South/West on 30 to DFW then West on 20.  That way gives you a ton more options and the drive is much smoother.  (highways are rough on 30 once you get into the "city" )  from there gives you a ton more options.

If you do come from LR....slow down on 30 at the Malvern exit for the next 9 miles....its rough road....then again in Arkadelphia and again just north of Texarkana.

Have fun!
