We are searching for a GOOD 25-28' fifth wheel trailer. We have wintered for 3 years in a Hitchhiker 34RLTG and feel that the convenience of calling with any questions or needs was an excellent experience. We are sorry NuWa does not make a short fifth wheel. It is hard to step down to a lower quality trailer but we have a winter and a summer home and will use the new trailer for 1-2 week outings. That is our reason for downsizing.

We have tried calling a few manufacturers with questions about their new and used units and been surprised that they give no help or answers over the phone. If anyone has a good company/fifth wheel, please share this with us so we will know where to search.

A favorite floor plan for us is the Jayco 25.5rks Eagle Superlite and we would like to hear from more Jayco owners on their experience with contact with the factory or issues with their trailer. :-\

Thanks, Dianne

Another one you might want to look at closely is the Heartland 5ers...specifically the NorthTrails:

One that my wife and I have really taken a liking to is the Rockwood 8265S.  With the two slides in the rear, it opens up to an amazing amount of room:

And one more that we've really taken a liking to is the Open Range:

Not sure where you are or where you're looking, but the Houston RV show is coming up next month.  A huge show, and a great place to look around for what you want.

New or used?
I would look at Northwood products.  They offer two models, the Nash and the Arctic Fox.  The difference is only in options vs standard equipment.  Both offer a lot of value for the money.  Sadly Ron Nash put most of the budget in construction and the interior suffers a bit.

Thanks for the replies. We have looked at Nash and it is on the short list. Jayco seems to be the one we come back to.

Someone wrote a personal note and asked about TT vs 5er. We definitely want a 5er because DH has a great set up with a superglide hitch and tonneau cover and wants to keep that. We have no trouble with tow vehicle as it towed our bid Hitchhiker just fine even uphill. We have a 1 ton Dodge diesel-2006, short box single rear wheels. We just want smaller and lighter for ease of camping and storage.

We would love to find a good used RV and have found good deals on 2009 Jayco Superlites - just not close by and we want to walk in a rig before we buy. 2009s have usually been on a lot for quite a few months.

I will keep listening to you all and appreciate any help.

You might want to consider the Titaniums by Glendale. Quality 5ers and by design a shorter unit while towing. Check out the Pearl 2732KB (which has a King bed) here: http://www.glendalerv.com/2008/PearlTitanium/2732KB.html and the Tour 2833SI or 2833Sa here: http://www.glendalerv.com/2010/Titanium/28E33SA.html. The first number in the model is the effective tow length and the second the actual length. These are well built Canadian units.

Also agree about Nash and Arctic Fox.

Jayco does make some great campers.  My parents have had 7 or 8 Jayco 5er's over the years, currently they have a 34' Designer Legacy and love it.  My boss has a 27' Jayco superlite, very good quality.  Neither my parents or my boss have had any major/it any problems with their units.

I just looked at the 25.5 floor plan.  It looks like a great, user friendly setup.  Plus with only a 10000lb gvw, your Cummins won't hardly notice it towing anything.

What does Glendale use for floor materials construction? OSB or plywood? Unfortunately, used Glendale's are in huge demand. I've never seen one.

They use plywood with foam laminated between. No phony wood. Has an R19 value in the floor, R14 in roof and r( in walls. Have seen quite a few and talked to the owners. Haven't run across any who had problems. I would have bought one a few years ago but herself didn't like the interior....too tan she said. I  liked the construction, design, etc. She won.  :)
