Oh Gosh! Looks like most of the advise I'm getting from you guys is to postpone my trip until the end of May.But then I'll be dealing with all the tourist crowds, mosquito season and high prices. I'm start leaning just to forget about this road adventure and jump into a cruise.

Tourist crowds?!  Alaska is 2x the size of Texas and Indiana put together.  It has about the same inhabitants as, say, Long Beach, CA.  Fairbanks and Anchorage, the two 'metropolitan' areas of AK are 450 miles apart.    You can walk 1/4 mile off the highway outside the towns and be in virgin wilderness.

Prices are high year around.  Mosquitos?  When I was there in 2003, they were far fewer than I remember in Orlando, FL.

What we are trying to do here is to get you to move that trip into a more feasible season.  30 days makes a helluva lot of difference in spring.

Thanks again Carl for your point. Thre end of March date to be in Vail is fixed because I alreday got a place there starting March 25 for a week. What I've been trying to acomplish is to tie the Alaska trip with this one so I can continue from there NW to Juneau and the rest of AK. And because I'm retired I'll have all the time I need, but not all the $$ I'll need to stay around until the begining of the spring season.

You do know that Juneau is not accessible by highway, don't you?  One must take the long haul Alaskan State Ferry from Skagway to Haines and from Haines to Juneau.    In fact, Juneau is on the way to nowhere in Alaska.  Most folks visit Juneau by cruise ship or by air.

Yes Carl I'm aware of the  Ferry journey to get to Juneau and  what I was thinking was to use the ferry service to move my car around the coast and the different points. We still evaluating our possibilities. Thanks again
