We're at Redmond

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an RV or an interest in RVing!

We sure had a great time this evening.  Happy hour was actually held between the Mathew's coach and ours.  Attendees were: Jerry & Ardra, Sue and Jeff, Russ, Marlene & Bernie, Terry & Betty, Kerry & Beth, Tim and I, and the neighbors parked in front of us, Ray and his wife whose's name I've now forgotten.

As always, the food was great....the friendship-camaraderie even better.  Terry, Betty, Tim and I bailed out at 7:15 sh to go see Debbie Boone perform.  If you like the big band era it was good, if not it was a little slow.  Not near the toe stomper that Betty reported the Nelson preformance to be the night before.

I can't believe we still haven't played any Mexican Train.  Going to a Convention is like being retired.  Before you retire, you think you'll have all this time; but ya just don't.

Did anyone take any pictures?

Marsha

We pulled out of Redmond around 2:00PM and are in Burns OR for the night. All the gripes fixed, holding tanks are empty, long hot showers and ready to head for Illinois in the morning.

As always it was great visiting with framily yesterday and running into most of the group at various times during the show. Today Kerry and Beth were working hard trying to but a new RV. Had anyone heard if they were successful?

We now have lots of photos of paint schemes for the Tradewinds if we decide to keep it for a couple of more years.

I'm packed and ready for an early morning departure.

DK got my new rear view camera wired up to the glass dash and also the digital fuel guage. The summer of coach remodeling is now done. The very last appointment is in mid Sept. at HWH for in motion ride leveling.

My route is via Boise, Salt Lake city and then I-80 to DSM.

We've just returned from the evening entertainment who was  Tony Orlando,  a wonderful entertainer.  He gets the audience participating  feeling like a party where he made each of  us feel as if we are 16.  He  did a beautiful tribute to veterans of all wars and a tribute to anyone who served in peace time as they were ready to go.  He did another poem set to music as a memorail to the 911 victims.  We are  thrilled to have been able to attend yet another wonderful FMCA Rally.  We leave mid day tomorrow and head back to Idaho for the remainder of the summer.

Alas, all good things must come to an end, and so too for FMCA-Redmond. Having so many friends around and waiting for all the service personnel  ;), makes it difficult to get to the seminars, visit the vendor exhibits and see all the entertainment. Didn't even get to see any of the display coaches other than one or two Travel Supremes while I was arranging service. Having to run to Bend 3 times to visit the Best Buy Geek Squad to get my computer back in business and then catching up with all the Forum messages when I finally got the computer back (a few bad sectors prevented boot up) took a chunk out of available time and ability to see some of the entertainment. It was nice that the weather was pretty decent the whole week we were here, a couple of days in the 90's, but mostly in the 80's, even had to run the heat pumps a couple of nites, and no rain. Usually an FMCA National Convention is like a rain dance and all the local tractors are put on alert  ;D. Looking forward to the next one in Pomona, CA in February.

Bernie,  Glad to see you are back up and running.  We stopped in at the Dometic service booth and the guy came out to the coach and gave Tim all the parts to repair ours if the problem comes up again.    He even threw in a new spray hose.

We are still here; but ready to leave.  We are having the coach weighed then heading back down to La Pine for the night then onto Burn, Or and into California.

Wendy, I realized I didn't answer you regarding where we stayed.  We've been staying at Newberry RV park in La Pine, actually it's a bit nouth of La Pine.  Mostly a concrete pad; but it's an easy in-out.  I tried to get into other places; but they were full.  Next time I'll be a bit more organized.  We plan to clean the inside, stock up on food, do laundry and take long hot showers....and wash my hair!!!

At the moment, Kerry and Beth are talking to a dealer about a new coach.  They fell in love with the full slide out style made by National.  So, they are "wheeling and dealing" and trying to decide.  Good thing we remodeled or we might have been more serious about looking....new coaches always look great.... ;D

Marsha and Tim,
Sorry we missed you on our way out and were unable to say our good byes.  We left Lot 11 at  11 and are now over nighting at the John Day Dam on I-84 at Rufus. Waterfront view, watch barges go by and birds flying over. 81 degrees and perfect.

We hope you got  our phone messages and that you got to see the evening entertainment of Tony Orlando.  (I do not see a little icon under your name to send a personal email. )

I hope Kerry and Beth get a new rig.  Shopping is such fun!

Jerry & Ardra pulled out this morning (Friday - 8/17) and are currently at the Seven Feathers Casino campground (Exit 99 on I5 in Oregon).  It is a new one and is great.  We love it especially the FREE WiFi G and it's fast.  They also put up multiple outdoor antennas so everyone gets it.  We were hampered at the FMCA because of only a slow Verizon phone connection which wouldn't even connect most of the time.

Too bad you couldn't get closer to one of the Forum members that have Sat.

Ron,

You're right and we thought of that for next time.  They all stayed in the electric section - lot 11 - while we were with the Monaco caravan in lot 8.  BUT, as we learned at our happy hour on Wednesday, there are way too many flies in that area which is closer to the barns.  So think we'll continue to stay out in lot 11.  ;)

We had quite a time getting the Motosat TV dish to lock on because we were in that theoretical -  now proven - dead space because the dish can't rotate 360 degrees.  It wouldn't lock onto 101 and it wouldn't lock onto 119.  The next morning we pulled 10 feet out of our site and to the side and, lo and behold, it worked perfectly.  So now we know how to force the dish to lock onto the "old" satellite and make do without the digital channels.  Ain't technology wunnerful!

Oh!  And, if you ever can't get your slide to go out after parking - make sure your brake is on!  Our site was so level that the MH didn't roll and I just plain forgot to set the brake which the technician helped us discover.  How embarassing!  Oh well, guess we all goof at one time or another.  This was mine.  :-[

Betty, thanks for organizing our happy hour.  Great to see everyone and it sure was a good dinner.  Hmmm, so you're at John Day.  Hope your exit tomorrow is better than the last one!  ;)

Safe travels,
ArdraF

Didn't FMCA offer CoachConnect at the convention?  I say that with a bit of tongue in cheek as CoachConnect has never worked very well at any FMCA convention that we've attended.

Marsha, Next time you might try the state park. It's north of La Pine and has full hookups ($17). I don't think I've ever seen it full. We're probably going to spend a couple of days there next month geocaching. We can stay a couple of miles away at Mom & Dad's for free but we can stay at La Pine State Park for free, too !!

Wendy

Maybe next time we will attend and we can go in together.  Then you will have a good connection.

Not to worry ablut the slide.  Life is always a learning experience and when it get to the point we can learn no more well lets just say there just isn't any future in it at that point. ;D

Sounds like all had a great time.

Ned:

I believe CoachConnect was the company offering WIFI at the Internet kiosk but that was it unless you brought your own.

They did try to supply WiFi internet access at a few conventions (ABQ was one) but had lots of trouble with the coverage.  Maybe they just gave up on that.
