in my opinion most, but not all, complaints and problems with Motor Homes are caused by the owners, (or previous) non maintenance, or neglect. problems with NEW ones will always be there because they use HUMANS for most of the assembly.
  it has always been known that these things were built just to keep us old folks busy! if you are not busy then you will have problems with it for sure.
do your maint get your naps and enjoy life...........this is not a rehearsal,  it's the real thing, ENJOY***** ;D

I purchased my first RV less than four years ago so am obviously new to these issues.  Is the general sentiment that things have gotten much worse lately or has it always been this way?

Then it's probably good that you didn't read all this negative stuff before you made your purchase or you might have not bought it.  Now that it's yours,  just go out and make use of it.  Relax, enjoy it, have fun, life's short.
