We just purchased two new 2200 Hondas for boondocking. Right now we have them in the belly of our 5th wheel but they take up a lot of space that we need for storage. Where is the best and most secure place to store generators. Thank you.

We have two champion generators, one lives in the front locker, the other in the side locker for traveling. If only stopping overnight, the front locker generator is on a slide so we can easily pull it out to use. If staying longer, whichever generator we want to use goes under the front overhang and is chained to the chassis.

I see quite a few fastened into those "basket" bumper/hitch, cargo carriers, on the rear of their 5ers.

Mine is a remote start Champion. It rides nicely in the truck bed, right rear with a cover bungeed on. Cooler on the other side. No issues with the fiver hitch. A cable lock around a tree and a 50’ extension cord works in camp.

When I had a TT SIL built me a rack with a metal strap to secure my generator. When we moved to the fiver I modified the rack and bolted it to the bed of my truck in the rear corner. To add to the security I had a locking folding tonneau cover so when unhooked the cover was closed and locked

Our Hondas ride in the front of the truck bed, directly behind auxiliary fuel tank and locked via cable to D-rings in the bed. Foldable tonneau cover keeps them pretty well out of sight when towing.

We had two Champions that we carried in the truck bed on either side of the hitch next to the tailgate, secured with cable and lock to the truck bed. When not towing, they were covered with a locking hard tonneau cover.

How about putting them inside the rv by the door. When you get to you destination, take them out and chain them to something outside.

Yea gads, who in their right mind would want gas fumes inside a fifth wheel, especially with a refer flame source.

I don’t think there would be any fumes as long as the gas cap vent is shut off. My Yamaha has that shut off and it’s in my basement and I never smell gas. If the fridge is installed properly, fumes should never reach that flame because it’s in the back of the fridge somewhat isolated from the interior. But I guess you’ll never know.

I would think that very inconvenient. Most people don’t need a generator every stop, and who wants to move two 50 pound generators every morning and evening? We left ours in the truck bed, but we towed a trailer, not a fifth wheel. We also had a locking topper. For a fifth wheel, unless you’ve got locking holders like the Shorters, I think the storage unit is as good as you can get.

BTW, has the Midwest weather let you leave yet?

I have mine in the front center of the truck bed, ratchet strapped down and a locking cable as well. The outside front corners each have a 20lb propane tank. I have a tarp over the set held in place by a bungee net. Of course, when in an rv park, they stay there and the locking tonneau cover is closed.

Thanks all. I'd envisioned that the two generators would be in the truck bed. I will pass this info to DH. I think DH is concerned about theft.

By using a tarp over the locked up generators, it isn’t obvious what is there. I should have found a dark colored one but…
And it keeps them dry while towing.

He should be concerned. Generators have been known to walk off. Make sure there is some good cabling attaching them to something solid. Maybe a welder could put a tie down spot on the fifth wheel hitch. You could run cables through that.

i store mine inside my tt when going down the road, i tie it to my table legs with a rachet strap. yes it has tank filled, shut off valve is off, so far, no fumes what so ever when i get to where i am going. its a honda 2200 watt, about 80 lbs i think ?. easy to lift, move around. genny was not cheap by any means !, i want to keep it out of sight, and where i put it !..lol. when i get to my camping spot, i cable lock it to my steps.
