I need to replace the roof on my 2005 Thor Magellan 36Z. Does anyone know how the roof under the rubber was manufsctured, as in plywood over foam or particle board? Just curious of what I might find
It is a best guess, but I would expect it to be plywood as those that I have seen were. There used to be some chip board around too but I've not seen it used recently and on a Dutch Star I would be shocked to find anything other than plywood.
I have no direct knowledge of a Thor Magellan but I'll make some guesses based on wide experience. Plus some clues from a 2006 Magellan brochure.
I would guess thin luan plywood over some sort of insulating layer, probably foam. The brochure describes it as vacuum-bonded, and that typically means a luan skin over foam. Thor/Four Winds says the framing is all aluminum.
