Hi Folks :)
My name is Stacey but you can call me Stace. I'm a 36 y.o. DIY-er living in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
I know absolutely nothing about RV'ing but I'm about to make one a home for myself and my dogs...for a multitude of reasons.
I need some input and guidance from those of you that are seasoned with good information, please :)

I'm currently looking at purchasing a 1993 Safari Kenya Diesel Pusher with a Cummings 196 Turbo  It belongs to a friend of mine's parents and has been very well maintained.
Absolutely no engine problems. Has 66k miles.  The only comment that has been made is that the engine is really tired and it takes forever to get up hills, over passes, etc.
Being new to diesel engines AND RV's ...is this a sign that the engine doesn't have much life left?? Does it just need a "tune-up"? Is it a transmission issue??

My plan is to park this RV for the first year and simply live in it. No driving around. Just live in it. I would like to convert it to 100% off the grid with solar, compost toilet, etc...
After a year however, I'd like to be able to do some traveling.  The price is right for me...they're willing to sell it to me for $8k.
If i ended up needing engine work done or worst case scenario...a replacement...how much $$ are we talking about?
Is the 8k price tag worth it??

Oh and the generator isn't working but he's not sure why because he hasn't looked into it and they always plug in when they travel.

Thanks for any and all advice. It's much appreciated!

I think you are biting off more than you can chew. I think the diesel is vastly under powered for the Rocky Mountains. If you are just going to park it you would be better off buying or renting a park model. Diesels need to be driven.

It doesn't sound well maintained to me. The engine replacement would probably cost more than you are contemplating paying for the RV. Good luck.
