I finally got a day cool enough to crawl up on the roof. Replacing the capacitors was not difficult. I had to cut away an inch or so of burned wire and flip the start resistor/relay around to allow for two wires to go to the other connector.

Buttoned it up and ran it for 30 minutes to make sure it was going to keep working.

On to the next project. Whatever that may be.

I would want to know what caused that.
Tulecreeper was 100% correct. The AC unit has stopped cooling again. Symptoms are pretty similar to last time. The only thing missing is the smoke.

This time I'm going to use Capacitors made in the USA and the best rated motor I can find. Still cheaper than a new unit.

I'm hoping the compressor is OK.

Weird thing. I turned it on today and it's working perfectly.
All I did was to scroll through the settings for that zone.

So...........
Never Mind. No problem.
