Attached are three photos of the same harbor, taken at different distances. All three photos were taken within a period of 30 minutes and show what happens when you have a 40 foot tidal variation.

The fourth photo, taken at a beach on the same tidal variation as the harbor, shows what happened to a jet skier and a dinghy owner when they didn't pay attention to the tide.

Not only should the boat owners pay attention but those walkers on the beach better keep an eye out for the returning tide. :)
 
Good point Jim. Here's one place on the same coastline where folks can and do get cut off by the tide.
