I would count my blessings!!!! As above stated! Fortunate not to have burned your unit up! Do you know with a proper rheostat and electric golf cart resistors you can make a DC welder. Guess that explains why a short can melt a battery...Irover
 
I don't know... it doesn't look so bad. Just pour some water over it (it'll seep into the cells) then stick'r back in. Ought to be able to get at least another week or two of boondocking out of it. :)
 
Wow, I have never seen one melt like that.  I did have one that blew up in the battery bay of my 06' Meridian. Nearly blew the whole top off of the battery.  I think the shelf above it was the only thing that kept it even slightly attached. 

One thing for sure, batteries can be a real hazard if not maintained correctly.
 
Project COMPLETE...........................Rewired the batteries and everything is back to normal. Thanks for everyone's help.
