Dish OTA Adapter & Wally Receiver

I have a question about using the OTA adapter and my Wally with a Tailgater mounted on the roof of my rig. Since I decided to permanently mount the tailgater to the roof I knew I would have times where the line of sight would be obstructed. I think that in that case adding the Dish OTA adapter to the Wally I could have the guide but only OTA channels.  Will this work or does the Wally need to see satellites in order to provide main functions first in order to provide ancillary functions such as using th OTA Adapter?

I find the guide to be of little value.  In the RV I simply connected the antenna to the TV coax input and the Wally to the HDMI.

I do as lynmor if I don't have satellite. Pay the extra $5/ month and get  locals via satellite if you have satellite.
