If the voltage is low, I can hear it in my A/Cs. The last time that happened was on a REALLY hot humid day, and with everyone in the park running A/C. With the A/Cs sounding a little sluggish, I checked the voltage: only 95 VAC!! So . . . what to do!? It was sooo hot, that I figured it was worth taking the chance of having to buy a new A/C rather than endure hours of agony with no A/C!!

That was a few years ago, and we haven't experienced any consequential problems with our A/Cs since then.  :)
