There is an old story, neither proven or disproven, that Nicola Tesla once predicted the exact time an earthquake would take place in (I believe) Boston, where he had his lab. He had accurately calculated the resonant frequency of the Earth, and attached a device to the buildings' steel foundation which went deep into the Earth; and turned it on. Near panic erupted. After the ensuing quake, police, reporters and curious (if not totally freaked out) bystanders were not allowed into the lab. When they finally gained access, they could find no evidence of anything that could have caused it, but a lab assistant to Tesla was obviously dirty and sweating from having done some fast and heavy work recently, presumably removing the evidence. Tesla did publish his resonance data, but no details of any device he may have used.
