It depends on the size of the generator, and especially the load. Our 7.5KW diesel Onan uses about .5gal/hour at half load, about 1 gal/hour at full load. Smaller units will use less. The manual for the generator should have a table of fuel consumption vs. load.
As Gary [RVROMEr] says - there is a very good flexible exhaust made. It us used by service stations to run exhaust to the outside. NAPA sells them. The roll into a coil and when laid out - can be pointed in any direction. They are ten feet long. Have used one for over 10 years now.
Never have checked or paid that much attention to how much fuel it uses. I know that last year in Georgia at a BMX Race it ran constantly for 5 days in the 100 degree weather. Ran both ACs during that time. Might have used 20 or 25 gals. Can't be sure.
