What's happening with the focus? Is your problem with the auto or manual?

Well, both. With manual I have a hard time with my eyes. ;D ;D ;D The auto focus doesn't always lock in when in the creative modes. It's a single center focus and takes a lot of light to lock in. If I go to auto DOF then it works fine. I thought it might be the lens but I tried another and it does the same thing. Good excuse for the DR XTi but my treasurer says forget it!! ;D
