My DW and I drove up Hwy. 1 from Bodega Bay all the way up through Oregon with 38 foot fiver (summer of '09)....Yes, very windy, twisty/narrow and a few times thought for sure I'd scrape the trees/rock walls on my right, but never did. Biggest hassle were the OTHER drivers on my butt trying to pass me.
Stayed in Bodega on the spit...lucked out without reservation there.
Take your time. Beautiful drive. We made NO reservations at all on a 2 1/2 month trip without any difficulty finding a site both in RV parks and/or dry camping state parks etc.
Absolutely loved TILLICUM in Oregon...I believe it is a federal cmpgrnd. One of the few campgrounds in Oregon that truly is on the ocean (which we could see if the fog wasn't in). Decided to stay 2 weeks there alone as it was such a nice find.
