I'm sure most of those who hang around the Parker/Lake Havasu, AZ area are familiar with the "Desert Bar". However, Tim and I had never been there. Some of you met our friends Ken and Ann Jones from Diamond Bar, CA who experienced their first dry camping at Quartzsite. When we left Quartzsite we headed to Cattail Cove State Park between Parker and Lake Havasu. This is a really nice park right along the Colorado River; it also has a dog beach that is great fun.
Ken had heard of the Desert Bar but none of us had ever been there, so off we go yesterday in beautiful warm sunny weather. This place is a kick. It's located about 5 miles north of Parker and 35 miles south of Lake Havasu. It is nestled 5 miles on a dirt road off of highway 95. It is only open from noon (high noon) to 6 pm (sundown) during the winter months. It is solar operated; made from old tin and metal pieces left over from the mining era. They serve drinks (beer, wine and mixed drinks and killer bloody marys), hamburgers/hot dogs/a variety of other sandwiches and beer battered french fries. They also have helicopter rides over the surrounding area. Lots of fun. We did not do the helicopter ride..... 8)
