I learned the hard way to use one tank at a time.  If and when that auto changeover fails, or you fail to see the flag inside the cover and then have two empty tanks, you will have a much worse day that simply going outside and opening a valve.

I check the flag pretty much everytime I dump. The change over valve is 5' away. Never had an issue but it does take a little effort to faithfully check.

Hmmmm interesting Rene. Now I need to go look to see if I have a ?flag?.  ;D

I agree. Just leave the propane on all the time, and let the changeover valve do its job. You'll get a 'feel' for how often your tanks empty with time.


If you find that your changeover valve is not changing over, then replace it. They are not that expensive.
