my onan is a 4000 w , and it putting out 158volt with everything running. thats bad i know how do you fix that.

First thing I'd do is put new batteries in my volt meter. I thought my generator was putting out 164 at one time then I put new batteries in my Craftsman volt meter and it then read 126.

If it's not your volt meter then I'm sorry I don't know enough about them but they do have a voltage regulator that is replaceable.

The voltage is a function of the RPM and regulated to the proper level by the voltage regulator. If the frequency - also a function of RPM - is the normal 60 Hz - then the volatge regulator probably is at fault.
