I wish to make a public apology to Buck (valleygeocher). He posted a for sale in the ?Deeded Lots in Rio Grande Valley? thread. He listed an email address for anyone interested to get in touch with him.
As I am interested in finding a purchasable RV lot at a low price, (initially as an investment, later as a form of price protection) and his offer seemed to fit the bill, I tried to respond to the email address he provided. I know this is stupid, but my email got rejected. I then realized he was showing things like ?at ? instead of ?@? and ?dot? instead of ?.? I should have been smart enough to realize what he was doing, but I thought either he did not know the proper format, or it somehow got corrupted or interpreted by the forum software. So I listed his address ON THE PUBLIC FORUM as I thought it should be and asked him to confirm. I failed to realize this was a cool trick to beat the spam miners. So I innocently exposed his address and he got 50 spams within the next few hours. I am horrified at the consequences of my error and I know how much I hate spam myself.
He asked me to edit it out, and I did so as soon as I got his message, but unfortunately that was many hours later. My email is not real time and I only check it once or twice a day.
In fact I deleted the entire text of my post on the board to make sure I did not miss anything. I know he is upset with me via subsequent emails I have received, and I cans only apologize and admit to my stupidity. I believe Buck thinks no one could be this stupid, but I really am in that area. I would never in a thousand years intentionally exposed him to spamers, and it never occurred to me that was exactly what I was doing.
Buck, I feel very bad you are upset and I deeply apologize. I also thank you for showing me a cool way to publish an email address without it being mined by spammers. I am just sorry that I learned at your expense. This forum is so close, so tight, and so family oriented, that I have forgotten that millions of people have access to it.
