Boy did he ream me a new one. He said "you insulted the mother of my children - you shouldn't even be allowed on this forum." I suggested several things: Go to your nearest anger management class, don't use initials that may be misconstrued, and develop a sense of humor.
On an old Harley newsgroup I used to frequent, we'd tell people like that to "grow a carapace".

I know, but I didn’t get my motor home from him, it’s an old one.
He’s doing me a favor just looking at it right now as he’s so busy with his own customers, that’s probably why it wasn’t checked. He’s a friend of a neighbour and is squeezing me in.
There is one and only one reason not to do a full leak check whenever you do any work on a propane system.

You want your license to repair pulled.

Propane sniffer is now a tool I carry in the RV. It will get you close but soapy water is needed to pinpoint the leak.
I just replaced my dual stage regulator yesterday, brand new trailer built in April, bad regulator from Fairview.
Out of stock at Amazon, a local RV part place had one Marshall left on the shelf.
I learned a lot.
Swan seal is the stuff for threaded fittings. There are regulators set up for NPT, and some for inverted flare.
There are standard, and high flow models. And, subjected to vibration and bouncing, any brand can fail, some just are a bit better at lasting.
Take your old parts with you to the RV or propane place so you get parts that work.

Fairview is junk. I learned that from the Winnebago View forum. EVERYONE had issues with them, and the recommended replacement was the Marshall Excelsior units.

Fairview is mostly made in Mexico or elsewhere.

Marshall Excelsior products are made in the USA.

Marshall has a very good RV propane catalog that is very informative along with being a simple product catalog. Its worth perusing for the tidbits of info you can learn from it.

MEC 2021 RV and Camping catalog for Propane products

For thread jointing compound I like PIPETITE-Stick designed for Gasoline, oils, propane, natural gas, and butane. Its a waxy crayon like stick. I heat it slightly with a match or lighter to soften it and you rub it on the threads. Seems to work well and you don't have any mess or spills, etc. Made by LA-CO Industries, Elk Grove Village, IL, its made in the USA.

PIPETITE-STIK

Be aware, some of the Amazon listings say 1 doz/12 sticks but only ship one, and others are hugely overpriced, several third party sellers on Amazon have 1 stick for about $8.
