Have you ever thought about buying a lot in Florida and register there? If you have a relative living there it would be even better.

Yep ! Done it several times and getting ready to do it again. Property tax on my new motorhome will be over $5000. I'll register it in FL in March when its about a year old and pay about $75

Re-registered our 2001 tradewinds DP yesterday in SD for $185.00, 2002 CRV $46.40. Sales Tax is 3% for vehicles in SD.

We have had the motorhomes registered in SD for about 12 years.  We registered the first time by mail from AZ.  A year or two later went there for drivers licences.  Now you must have a drivers licence before registering.  Our DS was $154 this year.  We just changed our drivers licence to AZ so perhaps next year we will not be able to do the SD thing??

Nevada has moved into 2nd place (after NJ) for most taxed state.

I thought that's what all the gambling was for -- to keep the taxes low for the residents.

There are many different types of taxes and since all states have an infrastructure to pay for, someone will get the bill.  No sales tax, then look for higher fees elsewhere.  If the overall taxes are too low, then you won't have the services.  TANSTAAFL :)

I am told that there are four states where a person can "Reside" offically, and full time in an RV and be 100% legal.

Nevada is one, I think Texas, Florida and I keep forgetting the 4th, of course one or two of the first 3 may be wrong too.

Could someone post the list of states and the tax structure including vehicle registration fee formula for those 4 states?

(If memory serves Montana home of the LLC... Is not one of the above)

Just for the heck of it, Include Montana.

Wendy?  I think you said this is your field of expertise...

And oh yes, due to illness (Daughter's beau) we postponed out trip to Death Valley till Feb

Not at all.  Gambling is for the profit of the casino owners and operators (eg Bally) and Jobs For The Boys.  Always has been, always will be be the gambling Nevada, Indian, or race track.

One can reside in (domicile) and full time from ANY state.  There are many considerations in the choice of domicile, not just taxes and vehicle registration.  For some, their health care program is an overriding consideration.

Hmmm, I was planning on fulltiming and having my home base in Livingston, Tx. Anyone here doing that? How is it working tax, health insurance wise?

There are tens of thousands of full timers domiciled in Livingston, TX, through the Escapees, including us.  Texas seems to be a good compromise for overall costs as a domicile choice.

Leo,

Should have kept your last one!!! ;D Lots are getting higher priced as I'm sure you know. I think things might have slowed a litttle as there are properties for sale that are not moving quickly. I do know one that is across from us but the price is twice what they paid for it a couple of years ago!!! We now have a least one house that is listed for over $1 million!!!!!

I agree I should have kept it but ------ :'(  I have used my HAC grandson in Jacksonville's home before even when I had lot at TGO. I'm going to do it that way this time as well. ;D

Why do you think that full timing is illegal in the other 46 states, John? I've never heard anyone suggest that before and, to the best of my knowledge, it is not true in any sense.

Federal taxation is my bag. Don't know much of anything about state taxes. We've looked around and will probably set up domicile and register vehicles in Oregon. No sales tax, relatively low vehicle registration, and we have a good address there as my parents are Oregon residents.

You can set up a domicile anywhere you want. You just have to be careful in some states that think they can claim you as residents if you're there for a certain amount of time and check the laws on being employed in the states you're considering.

Oh, and John, probably just as well you're not coming out here. The wind, she is a-blowing here at Furnace Creek.

Do check out the state income tax tho, they reportedly make up for the sales tax there.

Fortunately (?) we have virtually no taxable income which makes Oregon a decent choice. Texas would also be a good choice but I have a 'thing' about Texas and refuse to put Texas plates on my vehicles.

Wendy,

We may have Texas plates but we have a Packers plate holder :)

You know, that might make it ok....put a Broncos plate holder on the license and I think I could live with it.

Leo,

I used my cousin in law's address when we first registered in FL since we did not own property yet.

Things keep changing at TGO. You may have read we had a triple homicided just before Christmas involving a boyfriend and ex boyfriend of the daughter of the golf course owner. Nothing but problems since he took over. Now rumors have it that the post office building is up for sale and CSA has done nothing to purchase it. That could mean the loss of our mail service. It may be time to consider something else. :(
