With time most everyone has a system that works. For over 5 decades we have never made advanced reservations.  We traveled for both business and pleasure in our RVs and still do every month of each year.

On every trip, along about mid day, or early afternoon, we phone an RV campground where we would like to stop and stay. We notify the person who answers our phone call what time we plan to arrive and how long we plan to stay. Over 99 percent of the time over the years, we have been welcomed with no problem.

I can only remember a very few times when we were informed that the there was no spot open when and where we called. I remember in those cases we just looked up another RV Campground in our directory (we always carry Good Sam, Passport and KOA Directories with us) and made another phone call. There has never been a time when we could not get a spot to park in an RV Campground when we needed to park for the night.

The last time we had to make a second call was three years ago when the Campground we called at Jackson, Wyoming was full. A second call got us into very nice nearby campground with no problem.
